It was just reported on the ESPNEWS Channel. This is breaking news and it was reported about 5 mins ago, therefore there is no like avaliable yet. So again, the Blazers FIRE Maurice Cheeks.
yay!!!! Now they only need a new GM,a new president,a new owner,a new arena and new players. But Seriously the most important thing is to get a smart GM who knows what the hell he is doing and a tactical coach who understands the game and oh yea - a hardass.
Wow, the Blazers did Mo Cheeks a huge favor once you think about it. To bad this couldn't have happened last season though, I'm sure most Sixer fans feel the same as I.
Maurice Cheeks was one of the worst coaches in recent NBA History. good move by getting him out, he was a lame duck coach all season.
I agree, the Blazers did Mo a favor by firing him. Despite his critics, Mo is a great coach and in a better situation than the ones created by the players in Portland, Mo will be a success in the NBA.
Too bad for Maurice, but the Blazers had to make this move unfortunately. The players quit on the coach and he wasn't getting the results. I think the Blazers did their best to get him to succeed, but it wasn't working. I am sure Maurice will do elsewhere in his next try as a head coach. Blazers problems won't go away with the firing of Maurice Cheeks. I wonder if they hire Flip Saunders, the former Timberwolves coach. In 2001, the Wolves for some reason actually gave Portland permission to interview Flip. Flip decided to stay in Minnesota and got an extension never mind he was under contract for awhile not to mention he hasn't gotten past the first round at the time. I also wonder if Flip is interested in being in this mess after what he went through with several malcontents in Minnesota this year.
Hi--I just posted a short piece on what I remember best about Mo, echoing a nice tribute by PDX Commissioner Randy Leonard, at: http://alsoalso.typepad.com/also_also/2005...eeks_gets_.html Thought you guys might like to read it, torridjoe
They did Mo a big favor, he needs a better situation to coach in. This is the least of Portland's problems. I guess the GM had to make a choice either keep Mo or Darius, he made the wrong choice.
