<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I watched the Academy Awards on Sunday and the Lakers on Monday, and I think the Oscarfest would be a lot better off using Frank Hamblen as emcee next year. He'll be available, and he's a lot funnier than Chris Rock. In fact, ever since Hamblen took over as the Lakers' head coach, he's given us nothing but jokes, a barrage of self-effacing one-liners to remind everyone he's only keeping the seat warm for the next guy. I'll bet that plays well in the locker room ? especially when Hamblen tells the guys they had better learn the triangle and play hard on defense, or else what? It's hard enough to connect these days with pro athletes, but when you profess to being powerless, you might as well be coaching the Clippers. When Hamblen accepted the post as interim coach, instead of embracing the job and maybe impressing the brass, he spoke of his desire to have Phil Jackson return. That's when I knew Hamblen had no idea what he was talking about. I still say Jackson was responsible for the Kobe-Shaq breakup, his own Zen-like coaching philosophy leading to the Lakers' demise because he insisted on letting the two crybabies work things out for themselves from day one. Well, they never did, and here we are.</div> Source
This article makes me wonder if the Lakers orginization has already found a coach for next season. The way I see it is that there are two peple out there who might want to coach L.A. They are Phil and Larry Brown. I highly doubt that Brown will leave Detroit but he has said he doen't enjoy being in Detroit as much as he had last year. Phil has made it clear that he would like to coach any team that Kobe is on because that team has a chance to win a championship. I'm thinking we will see Jackson sitting in the Staples Center on the Lakers bench next to Hamblin next season. I disagree with the part in that article that says Phil was the reason for the breakup due to his zen. He has let crybabies work it out in Chicago before when Pippen and Horace Grant were having attitudes and they won 6 championships. The players are grown men they should be able to solve their own problems.
^^^ I agree 100%. I really think Kobe/Phil could be great together, phil likes coaching superstars, heck he has coached 6 (MJ,Pippen,Shaq,Kobe,Karl,Gary) of the greatest players in the history of the game and has 9 rings to show for it. Phil was quoted saying "Any team that has Kobe Bryant has a chance to win a Championship". That is a pretty strong statement coming from a guy who coached the greatest BBall player ever (MJ). Phil loves NY, he played there and won a ring there as a player, however they do not have that MJ like player that can change the game in any given point on a consistant basis. Phil is intregued by the Trio of Kobe,Lamar and Caron....all whom are young and under the right influence can do some damage together. Without Shaq/Kobe's off court antics, phil coming back could be a Whole new ball game so to speak....the main concentraition will be like it was in 99' ...WINNING.
