<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">While Nike is not expected to put Bryant in commercials immediately, shoe retailing sources, who previously had indicated Nike would not use Bryant for the rest of the basketball season, now say they've been told the shoe company still might use Bryant in the near future. Despite his off-court troubles, many in Nike's core young market still support Bryant. "We have maintained that there has been no change in the status of Kobe's contract with us and we look forward to continuing to work with him," Nike spokesman Rodney Knox said. Bryant's last spot was a Sprite commercial shown in July 2003. His contract with the Coca-Cola brand expires this season and, with James now the NBA face of the brand, it's unlikely Bryant will appear in another commercial for the soft drink. In the midst of his legal battles, some brands Bryant endorsed opted not to renew him in 2004, including McDonalds and Nutella. Bryant's agent Rob Pelinka was not available for comment as to Nike's future plans with his client. </div> Source
question first off its about time they started to market him again, they should have started when the major charges were dropped.......does anybody know if Rob Pelinka, his agent, is the same Rob Pelink that played at michigan during the time of the fab five? I know he was set to go to harvard law....(i cant imagine there are too many people named rob pelinka)
I'm glad to hear they're trying to slowly lure him back. For many fans that are forgiving, there are also those negative people who will always look at Kobe as a "rapist" and people like those are ignorant beings who will never change thier opinions. However, I don't think many of the young ballers out there today care about who endorses the shoe (or what they're involved in for that matter), as long as the shoe looks good and feels nice, they'll take it. By the way, I never even knew Kobe was with Nike? I thought he was still with adidas? Some Kobe fan I am haha.

Wow good timing Nike. Right when he settles his law suit with the alleged rape victim, it is the PERFECT time to start marketing Kobe and rebuild his image.
well, this is just mainstream marketting, he's had the Huarache 2K4s sold in his players version(albeit the prices skyrocketted on eBay), and it was pretty much widely known they were supposed to be his shoe. However, his clothing line has been widely anticipated, although LeBron is Nike's real focus. He's going to be bringing in everybody. And Kobe did not join Nike b/c Adidas gave him a lifetiem contract. The Kobe III samples were hideous(in most people's eyes, I actually thought they wern't that bad), and the Kobe Two's sales were terrible, not to mention he had to go back to wearing the Kobe's duirng the playoofs cuz the Two's were giving him problems. still, it will be exciting to see if he can reviltalize the flight line, and if his products can seel against LeBron, Jordan, and even Adidas' gauntlet. It will be interesting to see how Nike approaches marketting him first.
Yeah, I think he left Adidas because the shoes sucked. I remeber there were those silver moon shoes...I just didn't get those.
Nike Ownz. Im glad things are turning around for the guy. NEED ME SOME FRESH ONES.... scuffed my last two! HAHA
