Timberwolves' Notes

The Wolves built an 11-point lead late in the 2nd quarter before faltering Wednesday vs. Golden State, the seventh time they've seen a double-digit spread get away this year. Meanwhile, Minnesota spotted New Jersey a 14-point, 1st-quarter lead before rallying on Feb. 15, their third-biggest comeback of the year and the sixth time they've made up a double-digit spread.

Golden State outscored the Wolves 31-20 in the fourth period on Wednesday, hitting a torrid 6-for-10 from long distance (after being held to 3-for-12 through three quarters). It's the fifth game Minnesota has lost this year when leading after three (22-5); the Wolves were 48-9 in that category a year ago and an NBA-best 44-3 in 2002-03.

Minnesota enjoyed a 34-26 paint scoring edge Wednesday vs. Golden State, the fifth time in seven games they've outscored the opposition in that category. Under Kevin McHale, the Wolves have compiled a +6.6 ppg advantage (37.7-31.1) in the paint; they'd posted an edge in just 10 of their first 51 starts, facing a -6.7 ppg deficit (31.9-38.6) overall.

Wednesday's loss to Golden State dropped Minnesota into 10th place in the West, a half-game behind Denver (pending the Nuggets' outcome Thursday vs. Indiana) and a game in back of the 8th-place Lakers. Beginning tonight, Minnesota plays five straight games vs. Eastern teams, before finishing the season with 17 of 19 against Western rivals.

Prediction
Timberwolves win by 6.

Nice job, Linkin, some very interesting statistics posted.

I don't know whether I should be optimistic about this game or not. IF we find ourselves with a lead after the second half, we better not blow it. It's easily one of our biggest weaknesses; we grab a lead and then blow it. We can't keep that up because it's hurting us bad. We saw an example of it last night against a pretty bad team. We had an 11 point lead as mentioned, yet, we found a way to blow it. I've mentioned many times that, living in Ohio, it sucks not seeing the Timberwolves on T.V., but if we lose this one, then I can easily say I should be happy I don't get to see them in action because it's getting ugly. We BETTER win this one.

we half to win this one and win it like a team...i would love madsen to contribute from te bench and hassel has been quiet...so i hope our total bench will take on a good game, sprewell to keep doing good things in both halves of the game!(goes to the hoop in one,the other he shoots stupid jumpshots)...

KG has to keep doing MVP as he does the last couple of games...lets start winning! denver has 30-29 and we are 29-30 if i'm now mistaking...they have the clippers whom beat dallas so wemight get lucky...but luck won't help the key is winning our own,not hoping for others to lose theirs..

I think we take this one because most of the team was very disappointed after the loss to GSW. So i think we come out on fire and win

What can I say really?
This team is impossible to predict.

I would be lieing to myself if I said anthing optomistic was going to happen.
If the players work hard, work together, play D, get it done out on the court, they should be abble to beat a team like this. It's even worse now that half the team is on the IL,and half the active players are injured. Now they've gotta make do with what they have.

I feel like at this point, going into every game, they have to look at it as more than coming out of the game with just a win. If they really want to go anywhere this season, if they win a game, they need to build a winning streak off of it. If they aren't still optomistic about going anywhere this season, then there isn't any way they are going to win anymore games, simple as that.

I am not really impressed right now and shrug to most things now. They need to show me some consistency before I get excited.

To quote the late Jack Buck, I don't believe what I just saw. OMG! I did not see this coming. I said to myself here we go again when the Bucks had a big lead heading to the fourth quarter. I was stunned to see the Timberwolves pull this one off. Good job.

You can see why the Bucks are bad. They don't play no defense and the Timberwolves were able to be wide open in the paint as they score. KG and Wally found a way to be wide open and score from the paint.

Anthony Carter was good in the fourth quarter. He was able to find the open guy and score some big points there.

Wally was great too.

Good job by them in the fourth quarter.

I found this quote interesting by Wally Sczerbiak in his interaction with the writers after last night's game:

"I've been longing to play with a point guard like AC for my entire career," he said. "He plays the right way, he gets people involved, he pushes the ball up the court, he works hard on 'D'. He makes it easy on scorers like myself and Freddy. I can't say enough about him."

While he is praising AC, he also took a shot at Sam Cassell in the process. He and Sammy actually got into it in Seattle last week.

This isn't the first time Wally has done something like this. He also said a similar thing about Spree being the BEST player he has played with and that he (Spree) is a total professional.

Sabre: Yep. He also ripped Flip Saunders to Sid Hartman on All-Star Weekend. Wally has been known to speak his mind and he is basically spilling the beans on what has happened with the Wolves this year. Of course, his candidness has turned his teammates off.
