Kentucky forward Chuck Hayes will be entering the NBA Draft next season, so I was wondering if you all think he has a chance to even get drafted...He's a 6'6 forward averaging 10 points/8 boards a game that can play power forward and center, but he's much too small to play that in the NBA. So I think that him being 6'6 and not having a true position may hurt his chances bad.

I don't see him getting drafted, that's unless he makes the move to small forward...And I don't see that happening, because his ball handling skills are very poor....

I thought he was 6-7. I think his D and overall effort would be a plus to a team that was loaded with shooters and needed a hustle, role player off the bench. Probably a mid-late #2 but often guys like him have long careers while others with less work ethic become in a coach's eyes, dead weight

I completely agree, Chuck Hayes has the heart and determination to win. He gives it his all everytime he steps out on the court. Unfortunately his height works against him, but he has that post spin move down. He is an inspiration and a role model to me and my younger brother, he surely will be missed at uk, but hopefully will make it to the nba (and go to the pistons)! I mean tayshaun prince came from uk and has been awesome for the pistons, you never know.

Chuck Hayes reminds me of a Shane Battier type player. He's not very athletic, but he's a smart player, who knows how to win by doing the little things on the court. In the draft measurements a few inches makes all the difference to scouts, but Chuck Hayes should definitely get picked somewhere in the middle of round 2. He'll be a solid role player in the leage and a great locker room guy. Scouts have not been impressed with the International group of players and high schoolers declaring, so that should also help Chuck's chances.

I don't think he'll be drafted. If teams need scrappy type players, they sign them in the off-season. Look at players like Udonis Haslem and Reggie Evans. Those are the undersized scrappy players that teams want.

If he's still eligible to return, I don't know why he is going. Doesn't make sense that low-profile undersized players will get drafted.

Haslem and Evans especially serve to remind teams that such guys who are solid college players but don't fit some "profile" can quickly become your starter-and that kid with all the potential you used your round 1 on may soon be playing in the CBA

Obiviously you have no clue what you are talking about.. there is no reason to post on something you have no idea about. Hes not eligible, hes a senior, and you have obiviously never seen him play, because if you had, you would know hes finished with college, and hes not a scrappy player, hes a player who knows his role, gets rebounds, does all the little things, he knows why hes on the court and gets it done.

^Definately, every team can use a guy like that. He'll for sure get drafted in the second round imo.

With NBA players complainging about everythign theses days, it's nic eto have someone like Chuck Hayes.

we got an angry mofo here... [IMG] all i had to use was COMMON SENSE. so bite me [IMG]

hell, i don't need to watch him play considering he's not in any mock drafts. to the sounds of it, he's a role player, which i have no problem with, but he's JUST a role player in COLLEGE, something taht doesn't merit geting drafted.

why didn't udonis haslem and reggie evans get drafted then? they all know their roles, gets rebounds, does all the little things, etc. it's simply because they're not the offensive players that nba teams want these days. i'm not saying that he's got no shot at being in the nba, but i don't see him getting draft.

angry UK fans just bitter because they're not in the final four...

Congratulations on the most intelligent post of the day. [IMG]

You can not comment on the guy if you have not seen him play nor followed his career. You say no mock draft included him, but what about the JustBBall.Com Mock Draft? Why discount us just because we are young? Are you aware that Chuck Hayes was on the All-SEC First Team and was an Honorable Mention All-American? Does he still sound like a role player? He recieved more votes than Julius Hodge, Rashad McCants, Ronny Turiaf, Kennedy Winston, Adam Morrison, and Jarrett Jack for the All-American team. Would a role player get that kind of consideration? Chuck Hayes is not a role player, he's a leader.

OBIVIOUSLY you do need to watch him, or at least find something out about him because you have no clue what you are talking about. He is in a mock draft, THE ONE ON THIS SITE. Hes a leader, not a role player, he goes out there every night, and contributes so much to UK, they are lead by him, and I don't think that just ANYONE would be all american honorable mention, considering there were about 25 of them. So one of the best 50 players in college basketball isnt good???? YOU NEED TO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU TALK AND ACT LIKE YOU KNOW.

second of all, im not mad because they didnt make it to the final four, they should have if it wasnt for freshman stupid mistakes, and for MSU playing and incredible game. They are complete equal teams, and MSU was the better team that night, they had experience going for them and they played a tremendous game.

once again, stop trying to act like you know what you're talking about when you have NO CLUE.

You may want to shut your trap before you really get humiliated.

I think KentuckyFan knows what she talking about sense she saw all the games as well as I did. Hayes is more than a leader in my opinion. One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is that he also won SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

And JSmoove. at least UK actually got into the tourney unlike Cal, USC whoever the heck your team is! So don't even go there!

I don't understand how anyone could put Hayes down. Theres the facts, you can see all he's accomplished which is far more than you.

ahah. Its really fun getting to watch your favorite team in the post season.. how many times have you gotten to do that JSmoove?? I can count 75% of my life that UK has been in the NCAA tourney...

Why didn't Haslim,Evans get picked? Easy, some EXPERT,was looking for slamdunk conest types,6-11 Czech teenagers with no inside game, etc, and he was dumb enough to not know that tough guys who rebound, play D, play smart, wind up in the starting lineup. Evans and Haslim proved it in college, now they are proving it in the NBA. Brad Miller was never drafted. Meanwhile, you could look up a list of who went lottery since 94 and get a few surprises, some of them are borderline NBA now, some only lasted a few years and are out of the league. I don't expect Hayes to match Evans. Evans grabbed about 11 boards a year in college and historically, College rebound leaders become very effective pro rebounders.

99% of people that comment on the draftees don't follow one person's game. i don't need to follow one's game for their entire career to criticize the god-given facts that he's a VERY undersized PF who doesn't dominate a game. that doesn't mean he's a bad player, just doesn't give the person a guarantee of at least 2nd round.

good for you. last time i checked, USC has been kicking ass in football. i don't care so much for college basketball. notice how i ALSO like unc. hmmmmmmm... NUFF SAID.

you guys really discredit the fact that this is the pros, and just because you have a great college career, it doesn't guarantee you a 2nd round pick in the pros. judging by the limited scouting reports on chuck hayes, he's a good college player. he's got a lot of positive stuff, but factor in the fact that he wasn't the best player on the team and he's a 6'6" bruiser, it cancels out that (pro terms). i'm not saying he has no chance of making the league, i just don't see a team drafting him (course, workouts and the pre-draft camp is a dif. story). realistically, it seems he will have a decent career in europe or something. <strike>so <font color="Red">**** </font> YA HATAS</strike>

First of all- control your mouth. We don't need none of that crap here.

Second of all- that's pitiful that you have to bring up football to try and win an argument when were talking about a "basketball" post. lmao

Third- No one said that he'd get drafted high, but should be at least a late second round pick. We all know that it's going to take Hayes some time to get adjusted in the NBA, and just look at Tayshaun Prince out in Detriot. No one, I mean no one expected him to do what he's done so far. He even has a ring!

We're not being "hatas," were just telling you where you're wrong at!

Ohh.. So I guess I'm a "hata" now. last time i checked that was hater. Its quite pathetic that a 15 year old girl has better vocabulary than you. If you're not a basketball fan, WHY WASTE YOUR PRECIOUS TIME COMING ON A BASKETBALL SITE?

thanks for essentially copying and pasting what voodoo child just said. just read the
    above comments.

if you can actually read better than you can write, you would have seen that the only thing i repeated was that he was in this site's mock draft, and all american honorable mention. I didn't copy and paste, considering the fact that those are MY OPINIONS.

And UKownstheSEC is completely right, No one I mean NO ONE expected Tayshaun Prince to come out to Detroit and do that well, hes definitely my favorite NBA player, and an is a huge asset to the nba champions, so all i can say is "NUFF SAID".. seriously learn how to talk.

OH YEAH.. and if you think that Chuck hayes is not excellent.. look at this.

?To me, a 6-6 guy like Chuck Hayes is dynamite. He can rebound, he?s got a little shot, he can take it to the hole, he?s strong, he?s tough. He?s one of my favorite players in the country.?
    - Michigan State coach Tom Izzo
and... http://ukathletics.com/chuckhayes.. i think if you look at all the facts on that, it would change your mind.

I don't seem to understand what you are saying here. I personally would not comment on a player in such a negative way had I not seen him. Also, why do you believe that he's going to be a Power Forward in the NBA? There's no way a team would pick him if his heart was set on playing Power Forward. However, he's just as natural at the Small Forward position, and most sites I've seen (including nbadraft.net) list him as one. 6-6 is pretty normal size for a Small Forward who'll be coming off the bench, especially considering he weighs just as much as Andrew Bogut.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"It's all about college leaders man..players that are vocal in college will definitely translate into a vocal leader in the NBA." Where did I say that his ability to lead a team was his single greatest characteristic? I mean, would you rather have a leader or a follower on your team? You are giving me two options here. You're saying that either he's a role player that doesn't do much or he's a guy who was only good because he was vocal. That's a pretty narrow way to look at it. Yes, he's a role player, but not in the way you suggest. He's a role player because he'll do the things that help your team win, not because he's only good for playing roles.

Let's say you've got one of the final picks in the draft and there are two players left on your draft board, Shawne Williams and Chuck Hayes. While Williams might develop into a solid player in the future, the reality of the situation is that you don't need a "me first" type of player. You want someone who is unselfish and knows how to do things other than put the basket through the hoop. You need someone who will help out in practices and lead through example. You're not looking to get your next franchise player in the late second round.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">you guys really discredit the fact that this is the pros, and just because you have a great college career, it doesn't guarantee you a 2nd round pick in the pros. judging by the limited scouting reports on chuck hayes, he's a good college player. he's got a lot of positive stuff, but factor in the fact that he wasn't the best player on the team and he's a 6'6" bruiser, it cancels out that (pro terms). i'm not saying he has no chance of making the league, i just don't see a team drafting him (course, workouts and the pre-draft camp is a dif. story). realistically, it seems he will have a decent career in europe or something. so **** YA HATAS</div>

I want to thank you for your maturity and ability to carry on a debate in an intelligent manner. Aside from that, I don't know why you think that Chuck Hayes wasn't the best player on his team. Who else on Kentucky was better than Hayes? The only player that I can think of who might have been better was Azibuike. The Freshmen and Alleyne all have the potential to be better players, but the fact is that they're not better players right now. Anyway, you don't need to lecture me on what kind of player makes the NBA. I'm way ahead of you, Smoove.

BTW - Could you stop using so much sarcasm? It's hard to understand what you're saying and you never even type it right anyway.
