If the Rockets asked Wesley to score, he could do that. He averaged 17.2 points in one of his 13 seasons and 16.7 in another. He averaged 17 at Baylor.

"Scoring is fun," he said. "But defense is how I got in this league. Defense is why I'm here. Coach (Jeff Van Gundy) has been pretty specific about that."</div>

IMO he's the best defender. I never seen any player defend like glue to the opponent!! I saw him guard marquis daniels and thx to Wesley he had to take hard shots and went 5-16. I think it was Wesley who guarded Stackhouse too..and he was a brickhouse of 4-17. JVG's defensive oriented approach has brought the best out of Wesley's defensive abilities. He's not as tall as his opponents but his quickness and power makes up for it

I love Wesley. Incredible defender indeed, if he could teach T-mac his defensive abilities, then Tmac would be the ultimate all around player [IMG]

Wesley wasn't known as a great defender before, but I guess Van Gundy brings out everyone's best defensively. Look at Cuttino Mobley: he went from a bad defender to one of our best perimeter defenders after Van Gundy's arrival. We also have to give recognition to the coach for recognizing Wesley's ability and allowing him to thrive with his defensive ability.

Yeah I've noticed this too. Van Gundy just brings the best defense out of players. For many games now, I've seen Wesley completely hound his player and not let up any open shots. Its really what this team needs- just shut down the other team defensively. Although that hasn't really been happening with the team as a whole, I guess I'll take it. Wesley has been an excellent player offensively and defensively for us and shows that he is a true role player. Step it up when needed but mostly defer to the stars.

I love Wesley's contributions...he is arguably our best perimeter defender and also can knock down open shots...he also doesnt make mistakes...him, Barry and James have been godsends...the potential this team holds is amazing...

Indeed... I just watched the Rox-Seattle game of a few days ago, and to see DWes defend Ray Allen like a pitbull... by the end of the game he was just dripping with sweat, and even tho his offense suffered as he expended his energy limiting him, his D was one of the factors that contributed to the W...

Actually all the new rockets guards are good defenders, with offense also... Barry, Sura, James, TMac, Moochie (not) hehe
