<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Rickey Paulding knew little about Israel -- basically what he had heard on the news through the years: suicide bombers on buses, restaurants blowing up, animosity between Israelis and Palestinians.

But that was before Paulding, a former Detroit Renaissance star, had played half a season of professional basketball in Jerusalem.

"I've never had a situation where I feared for my safety here," said Paulding, the starting small forward for Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel's top basketball league. "It actually surprised me a little at first. Especially with what's going on with Palestine."

Paulding, a second-round draft pick by the Pistons last year, spends a lot of time telling friends back home that the Israel he's experiencing is not the Israel they see on their television sets in Detroit.

"It's not at all like the situation that you see on TV," he said. "I'm sure there are places like that somewhere. But I walk around here like I would if I were back in Detroit. In some ways I feel even safer, not watching all the crime on the news like back in Detroit."</div> Source

Yeah, many people think of Israel just what they see on TV, and that's all stereotype. Israel is really an great, beautiful place with tons of places to go, amazing beaches, and an interesting history.

Israel is gorgeous. I'm jewish, but I haven't been there myself. I look at these pictures and it is just fascinating. Israel is a beautful place overall. I believe I will be going there in the future, can't wait.
