It is a very small part in the article but it is note worthy nonetheless:

Quote:

I'm hearing ...
That it would be a mistake to discount Minnesota's chances of luring Phil Jackson to Great Lakes country. The buzz I keep hearing is that the Wolves have a shot if owner Glen Taylor wants to spend at the Zenmeister level for a coach, even with the Lakers and Knicks chasing Jackson. The lure of coaching Kevin Garnett is apparently that appealin
Source

I posted the question of getting Phil at the beginning of last season (if Flip didn't make it out of the first round), but was silenced by Flip's work. I still don't believe he should have been let go, but Jackson is a great replacement. In Phil's gameplan, we need movement and a point that can hit the open shot if given. Madsen would love to see him again I would think. Anyway, I don't believe our current roster would do well in Phil's gameplan and we would need to know if he's interested so we can go after whichever peices he would need. There was some speculation that Red wouldn't be happy with McHale for trying to break his championship record, but it would be intriguing to see if the Zen Master could take the Wolves to the finals. I think that in itself would solidify him as a legendary coach.

I don't see it happening for lot of reasons.

    1) Taylor is not going to spend all of that money for a coach despite what's reported
    2) I don't see McHale and Phil coexisting
    3) I think Phil is using the Wolves to make other teams ante up for his service. He did that to the Nets in 1999 when he was a free agent as coach.

    1) Yeah, unfortunately, thats probably true

    2) Me neither, but its time to make changes, and if they were to sign Phil, McHale would hve to go.

3)I dont completely agree, but it seems likely. Phil should take up the challenge of coaching a team that is down into championship calibur, but I have always seen him as a superstar coach: Shaq, Bryant - Pippen, Jordan

I'd like to have him, but at the same time if it came down to money, id rather Taylor spend his money on signing a big player than a coach.

I would love to see McHale gone, but I think Taylor will let McHale stay next year for whatever reason other than the fact they are good friends.

If McHale stay with the organization, I rather see him coach than be the GM. McHale is more better off as coach even though he hates being a coach. He has the drive and persona to be a head coach and he could be a darn good one if he was committed to that which he is not.
