It's the attention and care he has received from Arnie Kander, the Pistons' strength and conditioning coach, who performed his miracles on the likes of Dana Barros and Bobby Sura, veterans who came to Detroit with aches and pains but left singing his praises.

McDyess, 30, has missed parts or most of the past three seasons because of knee injuries.

His physical condition was a concern when he came to the Pistons, but entering tonight's game at Boston, McDyess has played in 54 of 59 games and started eight. He hasn't been on the court this much since he started and played 70 games in 2000-01 at Denver, where he averaged 20.8 points and shot 49.5 percent from the field.

McDyess, a 6-foot-9, 245-pound forward and former All-Star, has high praise for Kander.

"He's one of a kind," McDyess said. "He knows exactly how your body is working. Normally, when you have a trainer -- and I'm not knocking anyone -- but when I tell Arnie I have a pain, he works on it and takes it right away. He's just a special guy who knows what he is doing, and that has helped me a lot.</div> Source
