If you were expecting to argue against a talent comparison, save your fingers. But there is an interesting comparison between the two. Drew Henson has worked hard this off-season on becoming the next franchise quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. Coaches have charted over 5,000 of his passes. The Cowboys are trying to get him to throw with a more overhand style than the three-quarter style he's used in the past. They hope the more over-the-top angle will give him extra velocity on the ball. Last weekend, I watched some ESPN classic that had some 1970 season highlights, I believe. The man, Johnny U, really did not have the mechanics that today's coaches crave. But, man, did he get it done. You just have to wonder if today's coaches would have micro-managed him early in his career and made him better or worse.
I know David Carr's throwing mechanics were questioned when he came out of college. They made him throw passes over a ladder and all kinds of wacky things to get his throwing motion "up" more. I say let them go with what works. Rich Gannon and Doug Flutie both have/had strange deliveries and it never hurt them at all.
Not to mention Berney Cosar, he had the goofiest throw iv'e ever seen! However it worked quite well for him though.
