I just started watching college ball again, I still have this question: Why does everyone(not everyone, just many) hate the Duke Basketball Program so much? Duke is the premier program in all of college ball, and one of the best on any level of sports(If you look at the numbers) <u>Facts</u> 1. Perennial Top 25 team 2. Perennial Contender in the ACC, the premier conference in the country 3. Produces many great players(NBA, All-Americans, All-ACC, etc.) 4. Great coaching 5. Perennial National Championship contender <u>Reasons</u> They win so much The way they win The prestige of the university The arrogant swagger(I hope I am spelling this right) of the organization Please voice your opinions.
Normally in sports you hate on someone because you are afraid that they might be better than you. I don't like Duke because I'm a Carolina fan. It's like a hard and fast rule. I think Carolina fans hate Duke because they can beat UNC, and we can beat them. You just hate it when you get beat by them. So people go, "I hate Duke!" I don't think it matters whether you hate Duke or not, it is just a matter of if you respect them as a basketball team.
simple i hate to say it but the hatred of duke used to stem, at least partially, from race. People hated getting beated by these smart, composed good looking white kids (laettner, hurley) In the early 90s they beat the exciting teams UNLV and the Fab Five (3 times). People hate on them because they are GOOD
Duke is the Lakers of college basketball...they are cocky and people dont like that...they also WIN WIN WIN...this years team has no depth and only one legit inside presence and hardly any penetrating guards, yet they're still among the best in the country...
I think I dislike them because its the rich kid school and most people that like them only like them because duke was the team that was winning at the time they started paying attention to college bball.
I don't like Duke because of their bandwagoners. You see kids who started watching college basketball in the 90's like Duke just because they were winning. It didn't matter if they were from Alaska, were straight F students, and had no family who went to Duke. They still liked Duke, just because they were winners. I've always felt as if you should have some kind of strong affiliation with a school before you have bragging rights, and Duke fans usually have no affiliation yet won't shut up when Duke goes far in the NCAA tournament. Also, I feel like they're always a bit overrated. When Michigan State made the Final Four three straight years and won the national championship in 2000, they didn't get half the press Duke got for winning theirs a year or two later. Anyway, as far as basketball tradition goes, I'd be more jealous of UCLA, Indiana, Kentucky, and maybe even North Carolina than I would be Duke.

He has become a great penetrating gaurd.
Mainly because their good. I'm just sick of them. Hearing kids who only know one team in college basketball, and it's Duke. Basically it just gets annoying to always hear about them and see them.

I hate Duke mainly because of their fans. That's basically it. Duke got lot of good guys on the team. They are not as arrogant as UConn.
