When I started playing ESPN College Hoops 2K5 for PS2, I noticed that when I tried to go 1 on 1 with my defender, I got called for "5 second closely guarded rule." At first, I thought that the rule was just a joke and part of the game, but then this is a licensed game that simulates reality. I went to the NCAA website, and found out that it is a real rule, which upset me, because I think it is ignorant rule designed to stop great one on one players.

As a one on one player myself, I found the rule to be one of the stupidest ever conceived, and I hoped that it will be reconsidered and rescinded from the rule books for the college game.

Do anyone else know why this rule was voted in?, and is anyone else as upset about it as I am? I think that it disrespects the game overall by trying to limit the abilities of great players against lesser players.(One reason why I hate zone defenses, they completely disrespect the game)

If you Cannot stick with your man coast to coast, 94 by 45 feet, Get off the court.

    yea

i always thought it was a bad rule....not allowing players to dribble around .... but college bball is a more team oriented sport and it speeds up the style of play

It's not really a new rule, it's been around for a few years, but doesn't bother me much, I guess it's promotes ball movement, and also makes it harder for teams to just hold the ball and then start running their offense with 10 seconds left on the clock or something.

    Makes games more team oriented..

The possession aarow pisses me off much more than this rule. I do find this rule pretty annoying and I'm not too much for it.

Agree. Especially when it is late in a close game, you get a jump ball and the possession arrow determines it. Just like yesterday with UNC and G-Tech, it was a close game with I would say about 45 seconds left. Felton ties up Jack with a jump ball and possession arrow G-Tech. It could have been a whole different game if it were UNC with the possession arrow. Why not just jump it up?

As for the five seconds closly guarded rule it doesn't bother me that much, it is not even called that much anyway. I don't know why they have the rule in though.

The 5 Second Rule is so you just don't dribble the ball around outside. In my league, the count stops when either the defender is less than an arms length away from you, or you make an attack to the basket. The 5 Second Rule is normally only called if a coach complains about it.

As for the possession arrow, in the NBA they jump it up. But in college, that little arrow gets annoying. Sometimes it seems like the other team just got the ball on the last jump ball. I say that the people in the tie-up jump it up, like NBA style.
