Alright, my dad got me a copy of the Windows XP disc, so I can switch from ME to XP. My question is, if I install XP, how do I keep all my tracks and videos, that are currently on my comp, so its still there on the XP version? I'm not a genius with computers, so thanks for the help
Nah don't think it's possible then. I was referring to 3 hard drives. In my case, I have one with the operating system on it with 40 gigs, then 2 others with 18 each. So I can put my stuff on those 2 drives and format the first drive. Not in your case though. I guess you could only burn stuff onto CD-RWs...
yea man...when you install a new version of windows, it wipes your harddrive, so its like a format. just download winrar, and go buy a pack of cd's. compress all your files, and write them to disc in data format. easy way to back up me is the worst OS microsoft has ever made too...you're gonna love xp
I have like 14 Gigs of stuff I want to burn (Basketball vids+mp3's)...so it'll take a while for me to burn all this. Guess I'll do it in the summer. Thanks for the info.
I did it [upgrade from ME to XP] in the summer, and it didn't wipe my harddrive, their's an option to upgrade, and it should keep everything the same, and just give you XP.
Good News og Alright, I'm gonna try the setup right now. Before I do, I just want to know, if I choose to exit the setup, if I notice that I cannot find that option, what will happen to my PC then? Would it just go back to ME with all my files intact? Sorry for the questions, but I'm just making sure, cuz I'd be very very dissapointed and angry, if I do this, and all of my folders with my mp3's and vids are gone.
you should just be able to "exit the setup utility" and it will just boot you to windows normally. my advice still is to do a format and just do a clean install of windows. trim the fat from those 14 gigs, and compress it, and back it up. your computer will run much smoother and faster. depending on when you last formated your harddrive? have you ever done that? if so when was the last time? what about defrag?
<div align="center"> I got this option when I started the installion. I just want to be 152% sure, without any worries before I do this...are .mp3's and videos, images and things like that considered "data files"? Sorry for the dumb questions, but this stuff is valuable to me. Thanks for your help again.</div>
Thing is, if you keep everything, the computer most likely won't be faster as everything that was hindering it before is still there.

No major problems, just some minor ones that I'm to lazy to fix. I just want it to be updated. That's all.
I upgraded from ME to XP Pro with no problems a couple years ago. Everything is still there as long as you choose the "upgrade". A couple of older programs might not be compatible with XP anymore but that's not really a huge problem.
