Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Billy King announced on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 that the Sixers have acquired two-time All-Star forward Glenn Robinson from Atlanta and forward/center Marc Jackson from Minnesota in a four-team deal involving six players. The 76ers have traded forward Keith Van Horn to New York; and the rights to forward Randy Holcomb, <font color="DarkRed">a future-protected first-round pick</font> and an undisclosed amount of cash to Atlanta. Other aspects of the deal involve, the Knicks sending guard Latrell Sprewell to Minnesota, and Minnesota trading guard Terrell Brandon to Atlanta. Additionally, the 76ers reacquired its own 2006 second-round pick from Atlanta, originally dealt to the Hawks as part of the draft-night acquisition of forward Efthimios Rentzias on June 26, 2002. Robinson, a 6-foot-7, 240-pounder, played the 2002-03 season in Atlanta after playing eight years in Milwaukee. A career 46.0 percent shooter from the field, Robinson has averaged 21.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in 637 contests. A threat from inside or out, Robinson has scored 20 or more points in eight of his nine seasons, including a career-best 23.4 points per game in 1997-98. Robinson was selected to the All-Star game in 2000 and 2001, and helped Milwaukee to the Playoffs in three-straight years from 1999 to 2001. The Purdue University product was taken by Milwaukee as the first overall pick of the 1994 NBA Draft. Robinson was traded to Atlanta on Aug. 2, 2002, for forward Toni Kukoc, forward Leon Smith and a 2003 first-round draft pick. Last year with the Hawks, he averaged 20.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 43.2 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from three-point range in 69 games. Jackson is a local product who played at Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia and two years at Temple University before declaring for the 1997 NBA Draft after his junior season. The 6-foot-10, 270-pounder was selected by Golden State in the second round (38th overall pick), but played one season in Turkey and two in Spain before joining the Warriors for the 2000-01 season and part of the 2001-02 campaign. He was traded to Minnesota on Feb. 21, 2002, for Dean Garrett and a 2007 second-round draft choice. With the Timberwolves last season, Jackson averaged 5.5 points and 2.9 rebounds over 77 contests. In his three-year NBA career, Jackson has averages of 7.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in 164 games. The 6-foot-10, 255-pound Van Horn was acquired last season from the New Jersey Nets on Aug. 6, 2002, along with Todd MacCulloch for Dikembe Mutombo. In his one season in Philadelphia, he posted 15.9 points and 7.1 rebounds, both second on the team, and shot a career-best 48.2 percent in 74 games. In the 2003 NBA Playoffs, he registered 10.4 points and 7.5 rebounds, shooting 38.2 percent from the field in 12 contests. In his six career NBA seasons, the University of Utah product has posted 17.7 points and 7.5 rebounds. The second-overall pick of the 1997 NBA Draft, Van Horn helped guide the Nets to the 2002 Finals and has career playoff averages of 12.3 points and 6.6 rebounds in 35 games. Holcomb was selected by San Antonio in the second round (57th overall pick) of the 2002 NBA Draft. His rights were then acquired by Philadelphia along with Mark Bryant and the draft rights to John Salmons for Speedy Claxton on June 26, 2002. After participating on the 2002 Sixers Summer League team, Holcomb, a 6-foot-9, 220-pounder, spent the 2002-03 season in Poland, playing 11 games in the PLK League. This summer, Holcomb averaged 5.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in six games during the Reebok Pro Summer League in Boston. Holcomb is also part of the Sixers split squad currently playing in the Reebok Rocky Mountain Revue in Utah. link:http://www.nba.com/sixers/news/trade_030723.html Dallas receives a future (2007 and beyond) Philadelphia (protected) first-round pick. (Antoine Walker trade 102003) via Atlanta (Glenn Robinson trade 072303) link:http://nbadraft.net/draftnotes.asp#tor121704 This really sucks. the sixers don't have a pick this year, and they don't have one next year. I can't belive we traded another first rounder. Even worse, we traded it for G-R ob!!! I know we also got mark jackson in return, but those two players are not good enough to trade for with a draft pick!! I'm extreamly angry at this. I can't believe it. i know its protected, but we probably won't finish high enough to get that pick. Well, the sixers better sign some good free agents, because they really SUCK!
Well said In my opinion, I think the future for this team looks pretty good. The likes of Korver, Green, Iggy, Sammy (Well lets hope he`s still around.) AI doesn`t look like he`s slowing down soon. The topic of what the Sixers future may hold has always been mixed, but I beleive we`ll have some decent size and rebounders.
We are talking about 2007! That?s a long time, so you should chill. This thread is really unnecessary.
