As probably all of you might guess, I'm a big NBA fan. But one problem is my friends think the NBA is trash, and like other people I've known they prefer college. Why is that? What's so much better in college that NBA doesn't have. My friends just say the nba sucks when I ask them why. Why do basketball fans lilke collelge more?

Well people from college are more hungry and there are so many of them as opposed to 30 NBA teams. I personally would rather watch NBA ball than college ball, but I can see why it could be the opposite for someone else. Maybe it's because my Red Storm aren't doing well [IMG]

I eel like college ball is a lot more intense and the players woork harder, even if they aren't as good as NBA players. NBA players on the other hand...they have all sorts of not giving 100% cases and contract problems and problems with coaches and other players etc etc etc...you just dont really see most of that in College which is why some people prefer it.

I personally like to watch any type of basketball but I do prefer NBA. My friends think the NBA is just a bucnh of overpaid thugs runing around and shooting their arms off.

The way I see it is why watch college players when there are pros in the NBA that are much better? The NBA has the best players in the world so why think that NBA is boring and "worse" than college ball?

In the NBA, the only time players actually play a 100% is basically in their contract years, they may even try harder in their contract year than in the playoffs. In college, everyon hustles, of course they aren't close to as skilled as people in the NBA. You can see so much more full court pressure, etc, in college.

Well, I have been to many college and NBA games (a whole bunch of Hornets, Bobcats, and Wake Forest home games, as well as the ACC tournament and a Wake Forest away game at FSU). I think the experience as a student at a college game is un-rivaled in all of sports. You can scream like an idiot, curse, and jump around for two hours and no one thinks youre wierd. Also, the idea that these players are doing this with no compensation other than an education is impressive. The NBA gets a bad rep because of players who admit they dont try their hardest, or players who demand trades, or players perceived as selfish or as ballhogs, while there are some, there are guys like Tim Duncan who make up for it IMO. The NBA seems to be more entertaining (bigger dunks, more threes, and just more scoring period). I love the NBA playoffs and March Madness, the intensity and excitement in both is unreal. I like both the NBA and college ball equally, I love following the Bobcats and following former Wake Forest players in the NBA. I just love basketball.

    college

college bball is so great because of the intensity, the quantity of teams, the parity, the teamwork, the passion, the setup of the tourney, (BTW the NCAA tournament is quicker than the NBA playoffs yet there are 64 compared to 16 teams) and most importantly the betting on the brackets.

College Basketball games are so intense! Even at the High School level, student sections will cheer with such great enthusiasm. At the pro level, that is almost non-existant anymore. Crowds are less involved and are more distanced from the players that they go to see like never before in my view.

The non-NBAers play for scholarships, scout recognition, ect. What do NBA players play for? A guaranteed million dollar contract? Sure, sure...

Bled said it quite well. The college fans come filled with excitment to see their team and fellow students rise to the top. College basketball creates your name for your future so more people know who you are. And most of that intensity helps create it.
NBA players just play for a win. College plays for a win and a good future in basketball.

The NBA sure has it's fill of superstars and big egos but I'd hardly say players don't play their heart out. All the time I see players diving all over the floor for loose balls and playing with a passion. The NBA will always be better than college basketball to me. After the Bulls dynasty things kind of slowed down in the NBA but this year things seemed to have picked up in terms of scoring and shooting. Plus, I like the size of the NBA in terms of teams and players, makes it easier to grasp everything.

For me personally, College basketball is better in many different ways. Being 15 and growing up around basketball my entire life I have watched NBA players get carried away, and give off a negative image. You see them complain because they aren't getting paid enough or complaining because they feel they are the superstar and aren't getting enough attention, you never see that in college basketball. Even though college basketball has its superstars, you never see them carry a team on there back, its about teamwork. Being a big kentucky fan, they got to the elite 8, WITHOUT a superstar. College players seem to play their hearts out and hustle, I just don't see that in the NBA. After the brawl at the Palace it just isn't the same, you see tech's left and right you see players fighting, and fans participating in it. College basketball projects a better image, its as simple as that.

What college basketball world are you living in? Don't complain about not getting paid enough? There is constant complaining year in and year out that they NEED to be paid. Heck there was a special on ESPN just last week about why college players should/shouldn't be paid. Never see them carry a team on their back? Carmelo Anthony ring a bell? Mateen Cleaves (despite having a lot of help) carried Mich. St. on his back. Miles Simon, Christian Leatner (sp?), etc. These teams may be loaded but a majority of the time there is someone that carries the load for his team. I don't think college basketball necessarily projects a better image they're just a lot better at hiding their negatives.

its more shockers and a lot better competition.....i mean its like any given sunday a bucknell can beat kansas u know. thats why it is "better" but i enjoy watching the NBA.

something about watching and waiting for a guy like Kobe or Wade or AI doing something amazing with the basketball just draws more interest for me.

All tho March Madness is probably the most exciting sports event, in the country.

you are making such a big deal out of the fact that Kentucky didnt have a superstar but you are forgetting last years NBA CHAMPS, THE PISTONS DIDNT HAVE A SUPERSTAR!! You are just trying to use this thread to promote your precious wildcats. And about your first comment how you never see superstars in college basketball carry teams on their backs that is wrong also. How about Melo two years ago? he had nice role players but he carried that team!! Its not that a superstar cant carry a team in the NCAA its that the players that could go to the NBA. And as far as college bball goes would hayes be considered a star? AP Honerable mention puts him between 16th - 60th best player in he nation.

I agree with both of you in which points, but I live in Denmark and here we do not have so many opportunities for watching College Basketball.. But some games I have already watched.. But I think that it is two different types of style.. I have much respect for the NBA players but I think that they show more attention to their career.. But I must say that I enjoyed to watch Carmelo and LeBron in college.. I feel that the turnament of College bball is just good to watch and it gives entertaiment..

OH yeah. you are right with the Pistons, considering the fact I should have mentioned them. I live in Michigan, and I absoultely love the Pistons, they are an awesome team w/o a superstar, but i was just using uk as an example.Melo is the one example, he carried team, but he had help. Just like the LAKERS, Kobe is their main person, with out him, they wouldn't win a game. I'm not using this thread to promote them, they dont need promoting, I was just saying that COLLEGE BASKETBALL IS BETTER. no matter which way you put it. NBA players complain about MONEY ALL THE TIME, i dont know what world you're living in, but they do. College players play with more passion, determination, heart, and its obivious when they step out on the court. This year in the ncaa, there is no real superstar. Look at the fightin illini, they are like a mini detroit pistons. Every guy on their line up contributes and they have no superstar.

And as far as college bball goes would hayes be considered a star? AP Honerable mention puts him between 16th - 60th best player in he nation.'

If you ask me, thats pretty good, hes more towards the 16th though, after looking at comments by experts, and on the www.ukathletics.com/chuckhayes website. Its a lot better than you could ever do.

I live in England and we get to see one college game a week. I like the crowd, the atmosphere must be better than the NBA because of the crowd. For some reason, I am not deeply into watching college ball as I am with the NBA. The reason for this is partly because I don't know any college superstars(if there are any?) and I don't understand how the league, etc... works. If I knew the players and teams, I would enjoy it more. I don't like the 20 minute halfs or whatever they are, the game seems to drag on a bit. If I got to watch High School basketball, I would watch it. In England we don't have any intense leagues. It would be interesting to see people my own age play. The level of competition is higher in the NBA. This is why I prefer the NBA.
