Wow, surprised nobody posted this already.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Don Nelson has resigned as Dallas Mavericks coach and been replaced by Avery Johnson, ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports.

A press conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban told ESPN.com that Nelson resigned Saturday "for family and other reasons."

He will stay with the Mavericks as a consultant.</div>

The rest of the short story

It's nice to see Avery take over this young club. He did a great job coaching them in the games Nelson missed, so I expect him to be very successful with the Mavs. Might take a year though.

Goodbye Nellie. Its been a great run. Thanks for all those great times.

I hope Nellie stays with the Maverick's organization somehow and can help the team in other ways. I mean, he did a great job turning the Mavs from a lottery team to a consistant 50 win team. When he first came, he traded away everyone on the roster except Findawg, and then got Dirk and Nash. He built the Mavs from scratch.

Yea he's still in the Mavs organization helping as a consultant.

That and family issues, which are related to health. Mark Cuban said "other reasons" too...I don't know what that means.

I always wondered, who is the Mavs GM?

^I thought it was Nellie, or Cuban.

Surprised, but Avery Johnson will do a good enough job.

It was some great years, but he said they were responding to Avery better so I guess that was the smart thing for the team.

Btw, it was funny when Don was making fun of how Avery talked [IMG]

Avery is going to be a decent coach who is going to focus on defense. As good as Don Nelson overall? I dunno. I liked Avery when he was with the Warriors. He was a great leader.
