Why do teams do this while they are still in the hunt for the playoffs? The Cavs have been struggling, but at least they are getting healthy again. The Cavs still have a chance to do damage in the playoffs and get to the 2nd round. This opens up yet another coaching job in the NBA for a young, talented team.
And the East's habit of firing coaches quickly continues. One of the reasons the West has been so dominate is they actually give their coaches time to establish their system and have the players gel within that system. I'm not saying this is a good or bad move since I don't know but some of these guys need to be given a chance. Also, wouldn't it be crazy if Phil Jackson coached the Cavs? Yeah, I know, never going to happen, but just food for thought.
Welcome to L.A. Paul Silas ... Suprising, I wasn't expecting this. Yes, the Cavs were struggling, but firing your coach during a playoff run is not the answer, Silas is a good coach, I am sure they could have worked things out.
Yeah, stupid move by the Cavs, but I saw it coming for some reason. I think the real problem with this team in Paxson to be honest. But these new owners must think different.
Silas always gets fired wrongly. He was fired in New Orleans after four straight playoff seasons, and who replaced him? TIM FLOYD!!! I also wouldn't totally blame the Cavs' recent bad form on him. He's a great disciplinarian and would most definitely get a job somewhere else. Who would Cleveland hire now though? Phil Jackson sounds a bit far-fetched.
Stupid move....I don't know understand the logic behind this. Your team is in a playoff hunt in the East, and potentially can reach the ECF and definitely the 2nd round, but they fire him. GM's and Ownership puzzle me at times.
ESPN is talking about Flip replacing him, since Flip is a Cleveland native and still has some strong bounds to the city. I would love to see what he could do with this team.

This doesn't surprise me that much. With the combination of the new owners taking over, losing 9 out of the last 12, and LeBron's recent problems with Silas, it was almost inevitable. I think there will be another job for Paul in the near future. He's a great coach, but he always seems to be having problems with players. So far LeBron's career can easily be compared to Jordan's early days. Everybody sees the amazing talent, so if the team struggles, a scapegoat is created, and that person suffers the consequences.
LeBron is a star. Phil isn't coming back to Cleveland IMO, either NY or LA. Big Markets. I think Flip here is a real possibility though, we saw what Flip did with KG, Flip is a good coach, he milked everything he could of out of that Minnesota team, they weren't getting better, it was time for them to rebuild. Flip + LeBron = Good coach/star duo.

Lol, I just through Jackson out there because I thought it'd be interesting to think about. He wants his 10th title and Lebron is sure to get at least one in his career I think. Flip makes sense, he brought up KG out of High School and Lebron coming out of the gates faster. Question is, will they make a move for a permanent coach right away like the Nuggets did or will they wait until the season is over?
This somewhat comes as a surprise to me. I didn't really expect him to get fired at all. And about Flip....it's not totally his fault that the team couldn't make it out of the first round. You have to give some of the blame to the players for not stepping up when it was a necessity.

The new owner obviously has a different vision on where he wants the Cavs to head. He wants to play the younger guys and I don't think Paxson is going to be around next season either. Most owners like to take over and start from scratch by getting rid of the "old guard" so to speak. Silas was just phase one of the process. I'm sure the Cavs are going to spin the McInnis benching as the final straw, but Silas should be respected for that decision and not punished for it. It's not the first time McInnis and Silas went at it, and because of McInnis inability to defend and then cop an attitude about it, Silas disciplined the pre-madonna by benching him a game. Silas was sending a message that he's in charge, something I would support. I doubt this move makes or breaks the Cavs. Plenty of coaches will line up with a chance to coach LeBron. However, this off-season is going to be extremely important for the future of this franchise. The Cavs have a lot of free agents, and cap space to build around LeBron. This is their one shot to get the right players to surround LeBron with to keep him in Cleveland. Which is probably why Paxson won't be part of that process.
Wow, from this seasons perspective I don't understand this change at all. The Cavs have been a good team most of this season, but now they start to slump and you fire the head coach. That is....strange logic to me, unless the team is looking toward a whole new direction for the future.
