Surprised no one has mentioned this one amazing play by Salim Stoudamire to hit the game winning shot with two guys in his face after Joey Graham had given OSU the lead with 18 seconds left. I thought OSU had the game won after being up by 4 in the closing minutes but Stoudamire hit a three and then Frye a baseline jumper. Illinois Vs Arizona up next in the elite 8
YES .. the lone Pac-10 team remaining, I cannot help but cheer for them. Zona was lucky to survive this game, they blew a lead and it almost cost them a chance to beat Illinois in the next round. Should be a great match-up because both teams are loaded with talented players. Illinois looked unstoppable tonight and do a great job of closing out games.
^^Same here with the rooting for the Pac-10 team. I really wanted the Pac-10 to show they deserved some respect, but so far only arizona, i think, has really been able to show that. It was a really exciting game, if you didn't catch it, you missed a good one! Stoudamire was money late in the game, and Frye was hitting his shots too, it was good to see. I'm really looking forward to the Ill vs arizona matchup, to think i actually got this right in my bracket, even though basically everything else is wrong, ahha.
Wow.. I"m a big 'zona fan.. I screamed when Salim hit the shot with 2.8 left, even though it was 12:30am in my house with everyone asleep. OSU is a great team and I commend them, it was such a tough game... Arizona wasn't exactly the favourite this game either... All the preseason predictions had Airzona like barely cracking top 20... they proved them wrong. And Salim has showed that h'es the best shooter not only in the Pac-10, but in the entire NCAA. Jeez louise.

I also caught myself screaming and jumping up and down when Salim hit that shot. OSU played great and I was scared for a lil bit but somehow I had a feelin Salim would just go off like he did. I think this next game is obviously the most important for the Cats and I think if they get past this one, the National title is theres. Should be a great game as both teams match up real well. Go ZONA and Go PAC-10!(lone team..)
Too bad Ok St lost this game. They had a good lead, but they could not seal the deal. With that said, credit the Wildcats. Salim Stoudamire is something else. I know he has been in Lute Olson's doghouse, but this guy can also deliever when it's his time to perform. He did it again. It's a shame Coach Sutton's shot of winning a championship was denied again. Arizona has a golden shot to beat Illinois I think. Illini-Arizona should be a very good one.
I thouht Okie State would take this one, but they were more evenly matched than I thought. Anyways, congrats on the win.
I think Illinois can beat Arizona easily, but I was happy to see this game turn out like it did. I also thought Joey got away with a bit of an offensive foul on that shot he hit to take the lead at the end, but then Salim, he hit that shot while double-teamed for the win. It wasn't a big comeback, but erasing a 4-point lead in the last minute is difficult and Stoudamire was amazing.
Arizona could have done a better job of getting the big man Channing Frye involved and that is why for a second I thought they were going to lose. Sure he got his 15 points on 12 shots but I was expecting around the 20-25 point range going up against a much shorter Ivan McFarlin. But the big story of course: Salim Stoudamire hitting the game winning shot to give the Wildcats a 79-78 lead.
I stick with my prediction for 'Zona playing in the Final Four. Salim Stoudamire is an out-of-this-world athlete and player. Salim had 19 points, seven assists and two boards including the winning shot as we all know. JOey Graham played magnificent in a losing effort. He had 26 points, and eight boards. Channing Frye and Hassan Adams both had double-doubles.
Great game. But I only got to see the last 6 min, because I live in Albuquerque and the T Tech and WV game was on. But what I saw it was a great game. I just hope they can beat Illinois on a thriller too.
This game was defintely a great game between two really good teams. I thought that OSU would get by Arizona to eventually knock off Illinois in the sweet 16, however it looks like that won't happen anymore. I was really impressed with the play of Joey Graham in last night's game. He was called out by Eddie Sutton in the media as well as benched for about 7 minutes in the second half in their last game. I knew he would be a man possessed to prove himself on both ends of the court and he stepped up big time. As for the Salim Stoudamire shot you can't say really anything more about it. A special player just made a special play and that play resulted in Arizona advancing to the Elite 8.
