What a b.s. call to cost Nova the game! They had all the momentum and a pissant ref makes a terrible call and takes away any chance of them winning.
That is very unfortunate. The sound of relief that you heard was UNC fans nationwide and in Chapel Hill. UNC survived this one big time. I thought Villanova would find a way to pull it out in the end and if you look at some of the UNC players in the bench, they were praying that the clock would run out and that lady luck would help them. UNC found a way to win and quite frankly, I think they needed to be in this situation just to remind them nothing comes easy. As for Nova, great run by Jay Wright and his players. Their fans should be very proud of them. Villanova is going to be a force in the Big East for years to come.

I have seen Ray play quite a few times in person in HS and have been following him somewhat at Villi. And I have to say the NCAA tournament has been a mojor let down in his game. I think the bright lights got to him. But its going to make him better in the future. As far as the refs calling him on steps, yeah he & the Wild cats got jobbed. Even Roy Williams knows the refs jobbed them cause he wouldnt have felt the need to say during the post game press conference that the announcers even seen it was a walk without a reporter even asking him about that indiviual play, yet. And the two broadcasters were buggin if they seen a walk on that play, even when they slowed it down and counted the steps you could tell they really knew it wasnt a walk cause they counted a third step when he was already in the air. But the broadcaster just stuck with it was a walk so they wouldnt look like idiots. Its usually known as the Duke affect when the refs start blowning whistles in favor of Jersey color Blue. But last night the refs were clearly seeing blue down the stretch this time Tar heel blue.
The call was terrible, I am a UNC fan and I admit that call was terrible. I was so mad at that moment because I thought that it was a three-point play, Villanova had tied it up and we could possibly be going to overtime without Raymond Felton. But if you a Villanova fan you can?t all blame the ref, Allen Ray had a terrible game as well (something like 2-14 FG). Villanova really took North Carolina out of their offensive game in the first half, they forced them to take bad shots and make them work for the easy ones. There was not so much in the second though, UNC shot 55% compared to Nova's 35%. Nova played a near perfect first ten minutes to the game, getting out on that 12 point lead. But they couldn't keep the lead...
'Nova did a great job of hanging with UNC throughout the whole game with their best rebounder in Sumpter being out. But that call at the end was big time BS, and the reason he traveled was because he was bumped while going up to shoot. I guess that's how it goes though...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Timberwolf:</div><div class="quote_post">The sound of relief that you heard was UNC fans nationwide and in Chapel Hill.</div> You also heard the collective sigh of relief from all the people whose brackets are depending on UNC.

I felt bad for guys like Lowry, who played his ass off only to get jobbed by the refs like that
it was a funny call...i thought it was a foul and then nova was gonna win...i guess nobody can be perfect no matter what you do. it'll be hard for nova to swallow this one. as for UNC, they didnt play all that well but turned it up for the second half
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting og15:</div><div class="quote_post">It actually was a travel though, so I don't know, he took 3 steps...</div> I agree.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting og15:</div><div class="quote_post">It actually was a travel though, so I don't know, he took 3 steps...</div> He took two steps and jumped in the air, that's not a travel.
I don't know what most of you are talking about... I looked at the play several times in slow motion and to me it was an obvious 2 steps with the ball. As far as I know, that is not a walk. The commentators only said that to agree with the referees and not to sound biased... UNC is extremely fortunate to have this second chance that they really don't deserve...
Oh, well I watched it, and you have to look real close, when I first saw it, I was thinking what kind of stupid call is this, even on the replay, I was like this is retarded. Then today, I saw the recap of the game three times, and I watched his feet, and right when he picked up the ball he took a step, then took 2 more, it's hard to see, and something that I wouldn't ever expect to be called, but he did travel.

He got bumped after his 1st step, or according to you his 2nd step. Either way the foul was before the alleged travel and the ref blew the call no matter how you look at it.
They interviewed alot of the local NCAA coaches in Philly and alot of them are really pissed after watching the call numerous times. I think it was total BS and it's just typical that something like that would happen to another Philly team.
Lot of writers in the country are pretty ticked off about the call that screwed Nova. Mike Lupica of the NY Daily News really took the ref to task in Sunday's edition of the NY Daily News.
When I watched it live and the ref blew the whistle, my first reaction was, "They just called traveling!" It really did look funny first time through, and I thought it might be traveling - until I saw the replay. So, it was a DEFINITE wrong call that cost Nova the game, but I don't know if it wasn't just a mistake. However, the thing with traveling is it is not a judgment call, like fouls. "Was that enough contact to draw the foul?" It can be debated. It can't really be debated how many steps someone took when you have it on tape. Wrong call, UNC is lucky to still be around.
It was a horrible call, but its over with and theres nothing you can do, aI was going for Nova and it was an unfortunate call. The referee make a split second decision which was a horrible one, but theres nothing that can be done. Hopefully the ref will see how bad of a call it was, and rethink his place in the reffing world. Maybe he should take some classes cause obiviously he doesn't know how to make a correct call.I also hope that UNC knows the only reason they are in the final four was because of the ref.
