Telfair, Marbury Renew Family Feud

Legend has it that when Telfair was 17 years old, he beat his 25-year-old cousin in a game of one-on-one. Their sometimes bitter rivalry moves to a bigger stage tonight when Marbury faces his cousin for the first time since Telfair became the Blazers' starting point guard.

"I'm happy for him, especially for his family," Marbury said. "Anytime you can be in a situation starting in the NBA, that's an honor."

That Marbury would mention Telfair's family is interesting, because in a recently published book, "The Jump," which chronicles Telfair's rise through Lincoln High School to the NBA, Telfair's family is critical of Marbury for not providing enough financial support after Marbury made his millions in the NBA.

Marbury did in fact give Telfair's family money, but Marbury also had his own family to support. He takes responsibility for being his brother's keeper but doesn't feel obligated to be his cousin's keeper.

"Forget that I take care of 25 people," Marbury says in the book. "They don't understand that, in regular society in this world, people work for their families. I have a wife, kids, a mother, a father, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews."

Marbury says he hasn't read the book, adding, "I can use my imagination because I know my family. I know how they think."

Yesterday, Marbury told reporters that his cousin's family is starting to realize that Telfair's main concern should be the welfare of his family and not all of Coney Island.</div> Source
