As most Clipper fans know, forward Bobby Simmons (in contention for MIP Award) is an unrestricted Free Agent at the end of the year. With the way he has been playing this year, I think he would merit anywhere from 38-48 mil conract. Will Sterling chip out that money, or will he be cheap...once again?
I think if Bobby Simmons gets offered the same kind of money from a losing team like Charlotte or Atlanta he wont go but if he gets the same money from a winning team like Seattle or someone else who'll have cap space he'll leave the clipshow. I like seeing Bobby Simmons in a clippers uniform but i'm sure he can do a lot better for a different team, Maggette and his shot selection wouldnt keep me happy if I was his team mate and now that he's a proven player he's got no reason to stay with the clippers unless they convince him in some way that I cant think of in my thick skull.
If he gets a good offer from a winning team, expect him to bolt. He could be key for a team a piece or two away from the championship...
i'd like to see the Clips resign Marko instead, and let Simmons go. Much more versatile, as he can play alongside Livingston as a 2 or back him up at the 1. Simmons is a quality player, but losing him shouldn't hurt that much.
Well he'll also look at his situation, he's not going to want to go to a team where he won't get to play, so he'll do whats best for him financially and basketball wise. I think the Clippers will give him the money. MajorP&M, I disagree, Marko is just not reliable enough, he's been injury prone every year he's been here, and though he's great to have when he plays, the team just can't rely on him for the season. He should be looked to be sign and traded.
I dont see Simmons staying in LA. Why would he? Corey Ballhog Maggette is already in place. I say move on to a team that needs a nice swingman... most teams need one, but the Clippers need a PG more than him.. maybe a sign and trade?
The Clippers have Shaun Livingston, they need a SG/SF more than a PG. They if they re-sign Simmons, all that's needed are good backup players.
Simmons was a nice suprise, and I love watching him! However, with all of the players the Clippers have (e.g. Livingston), he would probably be coming off the bench playing his minutes - which wouldnt warrant that big contract. If another team offers him something like that, he'll bolt. Unless he is involved in a sign and trade type of deal...
