This post is in no way meant as disrespectful, but I have some questions regarding the Clippers: - Are there any dedicated Clippers fans, or are alot of fans bandwagoneers? You know how people will start the season rooting for the Clippers, but when it gets tough, the Lakers were always their pick and they "never loved the Clip's"? - I haven't seen a team that has not seemed to miss the playoffs....and not even seem to be close...as long as them. ( Now that I have contemplated this, I can see the Warriors in similar fashion ) I'm not saying there isn't a team that has struggled as much (since I don't know the last time the Clippers were in the playoffs), but look at the Nuggets now. The Bulls were to be the perinneal punching-bag (which they were for a while), but now have become strong playoff contenders again. Cavs also. Granted their in the East, but you get my point. The reason that I care is this......similar to the Kings (when they had Webber and Jason Williams and made the playoffs, yet lost to the Jazz that first time) the Clippers had Darius Miles, Lamar Odom, Q. Richardson, Corey Maggette, and Olowakandi. I remember they slightly missed to playoffs and looked like a dominant, YOUNG for the future. Then they started to dismantle the team. I was really looking forward to them becoming huge....but it just disappeared. How do you feel about this and does there look like a bright-spot coming soon?
Being a Clipper fan takes a special person. Let me tell ya! At the moment, there is no such thing as a Clipper bandwagon. However, should the clippers have a great season and get to the playoffs, you will see that phenomenon. However, when you go to a game now, the people in attendance root for the other team. Regarding Darius Miles, Lamar Odom, Q. Richardson, Corey Maggette, and Olowakandi - The departures of some of these people were due to the owner, Donald Sterling. He discovered he makes a lot of money keeping his payroll down, even if he doesnt sell out his games. Darius Miles was good, but his shot wasnt great. You can see now he is somewhat of a discipline problem. Odom was a casualty of wanting to smoke weed rather than play basketball. When he became a Laker, he even said he owes the city of Los Angeles an apology. Q Rich wanted to leave. I didnt want to see him go, but as many people see it, being a Clipper can be considered a punishment! Olowakandi should never have been drafted as high as he was in the draft. He is, was, and always will be a dissapointment. Maggette is still on the team, along with Brand because of Coach Dunleavy. He would not sign on to be the coach unless Sterling signed them to long term contracts. Right now the Clippers have a pretty good team. Their home record is amazing. Only 3 other teams have better home records. They are a young team plagued with injuries that cant get it done on the road. I feel they are a player a way from playoffs. I thought that player was Kittles, but he has been a permanent resident of the IL. They need another guard that can be an outside threat and make that clutch shot. Maggette can score, but isnt that clutch guy (just look at Sunday's game). It is really up to Sterling. The past shows us he will get rid of players so he can make more money. However, if he has any will to win, now is the time to make a move. There are some free agents out there, and he has plenty of $ to work with because he tried to get Kobe. The have good roll players that came out of no where because of injuries. IF they keep the same path, they will be a team to be reckoned with in the future. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Sabretooth:</div><div class="quote_post">This post is in no way meant as disrespectful, but I have some questions regarding the Clippers: - Are there any dedicated Clippers fans, or are alot of fans bandwagoneers? I don't really think their's a Clippers bandwagon, because they haven't been sucessful yet, the bandwagon comes with success. I personally have no like for the Lakers, and I've liked the Clippers for about 5 years now, so them losing isn't really an issue to me at all. The Clippers have missed the playoffs for a while, the other team would be the Warriors, but the main problem is that Sterling first isn't a big spender, and when he was spending a fair amount, they made terrible moves. The time with Miles, Q, Odom etc, the biggest problem was injuries. Odom was injured so much, and it hurt the team. When Brand came, the team also suffered a lot of injutries, and the one year where they were healthy outside of Odom [29 games], they were 9th in the West with a 39-43 record, and were at .500 with 8 games left in the season, but went 2-8. The next year, they had many injuties, Maggette [62], Q [50 something], Odom [40 something games], Brand [62], Kandi [35 games or so], and Dooling, Wilcox, Ely etc were injured too. Everyone but Sean Rooks and Andre Miller. You'd think that team would make the playoffs, and many people look at that roster and wonder how, but don't realize how little those guys played together. Their is hope though, but a lot lays on the management. Brand and Maggette are locked in, Livinsgton is very promising, Simmons is a good SF and should be re-signed, Wilcox is good trade bait, and also Maggette if the Clippers want a better shooting SG. Their's many options for the team to easily become a playoff team, but it's all up to the management. They could've been a playoff team or very close this season if not for injuries again.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting bshocker1:</div><div class="quote_post">Just say it...Sterling is SATAN!</div> Honestly, that SUMS up EVERYTHING! Sterling has found a way to lose as many games as possible and still make BANK. He is making a lot of money with a non-performing team. It really is hard being a fan of this team because it always seems as though they can be a good team in the future but there is no future, because sterling is getting rid of these players right before their primes. It is very frustrating being a fan of the CLIPS when they are constantly trading away fan favs like Q and Miles. I thought we were making some progress when we re-signed Brand and Maggette but it is easy to see that Sterling will not try to make this a good team in this legue. He just wants his money
I'm a bandwagoner, but with good intentions. I jumped on the year they had D-miles, Q, Cmag, Brand, Kandiman, Odom. I thought they were OK, so I said "they seem pretty good. might as well jump on them now since they had a bad year (season had just finished with that crew)" Course, then they trade dmiles for Dre and i was like "DEFINITELY A FAN NOW!" PG-Dre SG-Co-Mag SF-LO PF-Brand C-Kandi 6th- Q I was in love with this lineup. I thought they were going to make it big. Course, they never did and i hate the management for it. From a bandwagoner's standpoint, I see this team as a great team without direction. Course, this year has changed my outlook on them, but for some reason, management will def. change everything (although it was mostly ODOM and DRE that screwed the team over when they said "**** IT") To answer your question, a lot of clipper fans I know are really laker fans that knew entering the season the clips were going to be better. I'm glad i'm a "halfy" because Lakers are my fave team but rooting for the underdogs are ALWAYS fun
I am a fan of both the L.A Lakers and the L.A Clippers. However when they square off i tend to root for the Clippers. Clippers have always been my love even though the playoffs haven't seen much of the Clippers. Just hoping the Clipps Resign Bobby next year and make some strides to better themselves.
