If my memory serves me correct Boston receives a 2005 Los Angeles Lakers first-round pick. (Gary Payton trade) If the Lakers make the playoffs/than Boston receives their pick and Atlanta gets Boston's, from the Antoine Walker deal. (Atlanta gets the worse of the two.) However, if the Lakers don't make the playoffs, the Hawks receive nothing in 2005 and the Celtics keep their own pick. The Celtics will continue to recieve the better of the two picks (theirs and the Lakers') in the year the pick becomes available. The pick is protected through 10 in 2006 and through 5 in 2007. Note: the Celtics have Cleveland's first rounder from the Welsch trade in 2007, so Atlanta will get a pick from Boston no later than that year. Plus LA Lakers receive a future first-round pick from Miami. (Shaquille O'Neal trade). My understanding is that this pick is available this year| Now as for the second round LA Lakers receive a 2005 second-round pick from Charlotte. (Kareem Rush trade 120604) via [Charlotte receives a 2005 second round pick from Atlanta. (Predrag Drobnjak trade 081604) ] via Atlanta receives a New York 2005 second round pick. (Tim Thomas trade 021504) The 2005 selection will be the better of the two second-rounders the Knicks currently own. Can anyone confirm or deny this especialy the Heat pick. All information was on nba draft net
DancingBarry @ LG wrote up an <u>excellent</u> Laker's Draft FAQ. It appears we have 3 picks for 2005, assuming we go lottery: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> 1. What Draft Picks Do We Have? 2005 - 1st Round - L.A. keeps the pick if they are in the lottery 2005 - 2nd Round - L.A. has N.Y.'s second round pick* 2005 - 2nd Round - L.A. has their own pick 2006 - 1st Round - L.A. receives Miami's No. 1, unless Miami is in the lottery. 2006 - 1st Round - L.A. has their own pick, however, this could be the pick that leaves if we made the lottery in 2005.</div>Read more...
DancingBarry missed one then. We get Charlotte's pick for trading Rush, which is originally Atlanta's pick, so essentially we get Atlanta's second pick this year, which gives the Lakers 4 picks, not 3.
Yeah, there's some confusion about it but NBADraft.net and emplay@LG say the Charlotte pick is really a NY pick. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting emplay:</div><div class="quote_post">As I've been saying for a while now - I'm pretty sure LA has New York's second round pick - not Atlanta's. NBADraft.net - now backs up my theory - the Bobcats never had Atlanta's pick - they received the New York pick. It went New York -> Atl -> Cha -> Lakers Nazr trade, Drobnjak trade, Rush trade. </div>http://forums.lakersground.net/viewtopic.p...80709&forum=2&9
Confusing. What about Miami's 1st Round pick this year then? According to NBAdraft.net we get a future Miami Heat pick for the Shaq trade.
why do you care so much about this year's draft? i'm pissed we have more than 2 draft picks in the whole entire draft. this year's draft class blows and the lakers made a stupid decision to suck this year
Though not the best draft class, there are still some quality players coming out. Depending on where they land in the lottery, they can either take some pieces they need, and/or trade some of the picks + players for a veteran. Either way they need some new blood. This is the first step to redemption!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting J-Smoove:</div><div class="quote_post">why do you care so much about this year's draft? i'm pissed we have more than 2 draft picks in the whole entire draft. this year's draft class blows and the lakers made a stupid decision to suck this year</div> This year is Top 5 weak, but after that the draft is actually strong. This draft works for the Lakers, because they don't need another superstar, they need role players who know how to play their role, and they need defensive players. The draft is loaded with those type of players.
Im hoping some major trades will go down after the draft, hopefully including Lamar Odom, Chucky and Grant. If we can get good players to fill their spots (either by trading or by the draft) I bet the Lakers record would improve. On draft day though, which types of players are the Lakers likely to draft? Point guards? Power forwards?
Somebody better get the Lakers directions to Seacacus. Maybe they can catch a ride with Elgin Baylor!
Bahir why would you want to get rid of Brian Grant. He's your most consistant player, brings it every night even though it's a definite loss. I say get rid of the other Brian. He's about as worthless as the back up refs in this league. About the draft unless your in the top 5 these picks wont matter and get ready for another fun-filled season like this in 06'.
Kinda like the Raptors, but the Raps also have 2 first and 2 seconds next year, unless we have to give the pick we owe in the Lammond Murray trade.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">Brian Grant's overpaid contract prevents the Lakers from signing any significant free agents until 2007!</div> Yeah that is my main reason for wanting to trade him away. And there is other, cheaper power forwards/centers out there that can bring more to the table.
