i'm starting a new campaine called free willie. it is exactly what it sounds like, or in other words, just let willie play. i admit that for the most part of last season, i didn't like willie much. i thought he couldn't shoot or pass the ball. but i have got to admit, the last part of last season, he surprised me. he was playing a way that i never expected he would play. he was stepping up terrifically with the absence of iverson. he was making his shots and he was passing well. i just couldn't wait for the 04-05 season to begin so i could watch willie playing with AI. i thought that willie would get major minutes and that he would contribute a lot and i also thought he would have a chance in the rookie/sophmore game. but it didn't work out the way i had expected. now, he is sitting on the bench and is barely even playing. he only plays garbage minutes, which i think is some major bull ****. you would think that obie would let willie play to continue his development but he isn't. he is just letting willie sit on the bench and letting his talents rott. the least obie can do is put willie in front of mckie in the depth list, because, no offense to aaron or anything, but this season he is playing horriblely. he just refuses to shoot the ball. the only thing he does is play defense, which i think willie can do too, but not as well. but still, at least willie drives to the hoop and tries to get shots. willie isn't a bad player at all. just watch him play when AI is injured. he always steps up. also, in garbage minutes which is like 5 minutes, he usually always comes out with 2 or 3 or even more points. where as mckie may play 20 minutes or so and come out with the same amount of points willie can get in 5 minutes of play. i mean, your not talking about the mckie that won the sixth man award, your talking about an aging mckie who refuses to uses his best talents, which is shooting the ball. he doesn't try to create his own shots, he just basically stands around and waiting for the open shot, which he probably will miss. so i'm just trying to say that i love our starting lineup just the way it is right now, but i think obie should switch mckie and willie on the depth chart so willie can come off the bench for korver or iggy and get more minutes to develope. because right now, willie is doing nothing and obie is letting his fine talents rott.
I agree that Willie G. should get more minutes, he is in o'brien's dog house right now and is playing garbage time. If anything, he should come off the bench for Iverson to give him some rest (Iverson averages the most minutes in the league). I think your are giving Willie green more credit than he deserves however. The bottom line is that Willie Green has been a loose cannon ball on offence this year. When he's been given minutes this year, he hardly ever passes the ball, has zero court awareness, and jacks up way too many shots(he's shooting 36 percent). Mckie is a much better defender, shoots the three ball well, and makes good decisions with the ball. He won't give you many points, but O'brien doesn't put him in there for offence. So yes, Willie Green should get more minutes, but not more than Mckie.
I hear what you saying, which is part of the reason why I dislike O'Brien's coaching methods. However, remember at the beginning of the season how they played Green in the lineup as shooting guard along with Iverson? If you haven't well it didn't really work out. Both these guys need to ball to do damage against the other team and since Iverson gets most of the touches, well Green isn't really that effective. Add Chris Webber, who also demands the ball and well, you've got a problem. So I'm not sure its entirely O'Brien's fault but honestly, the least he could do is give him more minutes instead of Mckie.

Free Willie... to another team. I don't think it's going to work out here. Right now, however, I don't really mind. If Willie has to play garbage minutes for us to win, then thats how I want it to be.

Duh.....what are you tallking about him getting more minutes than Aaron.....McKie is the guy responsible for Iguodala's man(in most cases, stars) when Iguodala is sitting on the bench. Everybody's been crediting Iguodala for everything, but McKie definitely deserves some praise. Willile on the other hand is a very good on ball defender, while Aaron and Iguodala are good at BOTH on and off ball defending the players. Iguodala and Mckie are so good at shuting down stars is because they are GLUED to them, off the ball. You know what I mean it's like Sammy being a really good shot blocker but just a decent on ball defender. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you about Willie getting more minutes, but definitely can't get much more than McKie. This is how it should work.
Yeah, Willie Green is probably never going to shine in Philadelphia as much as I want him to. There's way too many ball handlers on this team with Webber and Iverson. Add into the mix that O'Brien doesn't experiment and give him minutes with Webber who is an excellent passer and well, there you have it. I just don't understand Billy King though, he won't trade him, yet he knows that O'Brien won't play him. Unless he plans on making a bigger trade, Green's stock is just going to keep dropping until he won't be able to get anyone for him.
I really want to see Willie Green get more playing time to but it's not like he's going to waste completely. Remember he still gets to practice with the team and most likely that means he's going up against AI in the practices. That may lead to him getting better by playing against Iverson in practice. Plus if AI gets hurt we'll know that there is going to be a some what reliable option to back him up in Green.
