Forward Donyell Marshall is gaining more and more consideration for the NBA's Sixth Man Award, which is selected by writers and broadcasters covering the league. While Chicago Bulls rookie Ben Gordon and Boston Celtics guard Ricky Davis are considered the front-runners, Marshall's play through the past 18 games -- averaging over 16 points and almost eight rebounds -- has put the Reading, Pa., native right in the mix. "He's as viable as any candidate out there," teammate Jalen Rose said, prior to Saturday's game in Atlanta. "I think a lot of times when they poll those awards, they end up going to a guy that has the same numbers, but played on a better team. But he's definitely in consideration and deservedly so." Marshall, in fact, could come up the middle and win, particularly if the writers and broadcasters pick Gordon as the rookie of the year. The young guard is averaging 14.9 points in 24 minutes a game. </div> Source
Personally I've always thought D-MArsh should win it..he's one of the few who knows he deserves a starting position on the bench but doesn't complain..he's broken NBA records..he's a great offensive and defensive player..there's so many arguments I can make about him receiving the 6th man award. Even if he doesnt win it, he should.
no he doesnt really deserve it. i mean he's good an all but, gordan has 20, double digit 4th quarters for the year, leading the nba, i think that is the thing that most voters will look at and with the 6 or 7 game winning shots. he has played well, but he is not the only 6th man that could start and doesnt complain.
There are a lot of great canidates this year. I'm surprised the article didn't mention Radman from the Sonics.
The top 3 candidates, in my opinion, are (in no order) Ben Gordon Ricky Davis Vladimir Radmanovic I dont feel that Marshall should be included. I think it should go to a player who is on a successful team. The teams bench is often a big part of the success, so the teams of the players above all qualify. I'm pullin' for Gordon to win, and all of you should too
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting raptors4life:</div><div class="quote_post">he's broken NBA records</div> If you are speaking of his 12 treys in one game, it actually tied Kobe Bryant's record. It didn't break it. Personally, I could see him getting it, however, I believe Ben Gordon deserves it more (that and ROY, but that's beyond the point). Gordon has been phenomenal down the stretch of games (scored 10 or more 18 times in the 4th last I knew). Plus what will help Gordon out a lot is the fact that his team is most likely in the playoffs. So, while Marshall may be putting up great numbers, I don't see him as the frontrunner.

the sixth man award is actually pretty close...ricky was the early candidate but gordon certainly proved himself worthy for consideration and probably the award as well
I have Gordon down for 6th man, followed by Marshall and [Ricky] Davis. Gordon has done so much for Chicago, he's hit big shots this year in addition to some strong numbers, especially for a rookie. In only 24 minutes averaged per game, he averages 14.9 PPG, 1.8 APG, and 2.6 RPG, his turnovers need to be worked out (2.3 averaged per). And all the while providing energy to the court. He's also hit some big shots, I believe I speak for all Knicks fans when I say that the kid can really perform in crunch time. I'm torn between Marshall and Davis for 2nd in 6th man, I really can't decide between the two, despite my efforts to take one side. They both play at a high level and are serious offensive threats. It's a difficult decision between the two.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting 02civic:</div><div class="quote_post">Marsh deserves to be in it, at least has much has Vlad and Ricky. </div>But remember that it's only been awarded to two players on sub-.500 teams since it's conception.
Are we all forgetting Jerry Stackhouse? He's missed some games, but he's done a lot for his team to atleast be mentioned with the others.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Banks:</div><div class="quote_post">Are we all forgetting Jerry Stackhouse?</div> Yes. Seriously, yeah he does deserved to be atleast mentioned, but he has absoloutely no chance to win it, so it would be more or less a formality.

ya see ben gordans 22 point 4th quarter performance, 35 for the night, i think that might have wrapped up the 6th man of the year and the roy in one quarter of worrk
There is no question that Ricky Davis Deserves the 6th man honors ! ! Correct me if I am wrong, Ben Gordon (the great player he is) has always been coming off the bench, Ricky hasn't. When new coach Doc Rivers arrived this year early in November he asked Ricky to move from his original spot in the starting lineup to help balance out the bench and Ricky surprisingly enough accepted his new role with pride, in order to help his team. Totally responsible for forming the Celtics second unit, which is arguably, one of the best in the league...Not only is he an extremely talented offensive player who at times acts as if he can never miss a shot, he is a wonderful defensive player as well. And best of all he has proved all his critics wrong, who expected this much out of a so-called "Selfish Punk"?
Gordon and Davis have better stats and their teams are in the post season. So 'Yell ain't winning it this season.
There is no way in hell 'Yell is gonna win the award. It would take a 9 game winning streak and a 9 game losing streak for everyone else for him to even be considered.
