<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The nearly annual who's-leaving-early waiting game has begun for the Arizona basketball team, but the Wildcats are not holding their breath over Hassan Adams.

Although the Arizona junior forward will be invited to join returnees for spring workouts, UA coaches fully expect him to at least test his NBA marketability this spring. Adams can prepare for the NBA draft, participate in the Chicago pre-draft camp, and still return to school if he does not hire an agent and pays his own way to any workouts.

Former UA guard Jason Gardner did the same thing in 2001, ultimately deciding to return to Arizona for a final two seasons.

"I think there's no question'' he'll test the market," UA associate head coach Jim Rosborough said Monday. "He's got nothing to lose. ? It's just like what Jason Gardner did.''

KOLD-TV (Channel 13) quoted Adams saying, "I'll be back,'' after the Wildcats lost to Illinois on Saturday, but Adams did not definitively answer all questions about his future following the game.

Adams was not available for comment Monday. Rosborough said Adams did not tell him he was staying and told Adams on Monday that he planned to assist Adams' decision by surveying NBA contacts about his prospects.

Chris Monter of the Monter Draft News said Monday that this year's draft may be weak in seniors, high schoolers and foreigners, meaning non-seniors may have a better chance to jump early. But he said Adams still must demonstrate he's worthy of a first-round pick because he will need to play shooting guard in the NBA.

Adams, who played power forward as a sophomore but started on the perimeter this season, is also not listed on the hoopshype.com or nbadraft.net first-round mock drafts.

"Obviously, he's a very talented player, a big-time athlete,'' Monter said. "But he still needs to prove he can shoot it consistently and with ( Salim) Stoudamire being gone, he'll be asked to next year.''

The major problem for the Wildcats - unless Adams hires an agent and thus exits the program permanently - is that they may not know until late this spring if he will return. Prospects have until a week before the late June draft to rescind their names. </div> Source

Hassan plays at a level of intensity few match. He makes things happen. He is going to have to deal with the tweener label and is not a pure shooter. He is a guy a coach will love, and some coaches call the shots on draft day and will see him as an Artest type, but sane.
