I've got to get some other thoughts on what the jazz will do in the upcoming draft. I believe we've got two picks, on in the lottery and another in from dallas. But are team is already so young, the last thing we need is another project. I'm thinking they trade up or down. up-to get a nba ready player (bogut, paul, williams?) or down- trade the pick for a established veteran (like 28-30 yrs old). What cha think? possible?
This year's draft is thin on top and deep in the middle. After, Bogut, Paul, and Marvin Williams, it's pretty much a crap shoot the rest of the way. Unfortunately, the Jazz are drafting 1 slot to late to grab one of those players. I don't see Atlanta, Charlotte, or New Orleans making a trade with the Jazz, so in all likelyhood the Jazz will trade down. The Jazz will probably package their 1st round pick and either Harpring (expiring contract) or Boozer. A team like the Warriors might be willing to deal to move up a few slots. Mike Dunleavy is wearing out his welcome in GS. I think Dunleavy would thrive under Jerry Sloan and gives the Jazz insurance in case Raja Bell bolts. Mike Dunleavy + 7th pick for Matt Harpring + 4th pick At the 7th pick Raymond Felton will still be there, and possibly Deron Williams. 2006 Lineup PG - Felton SG - Dunleavy SF - Kirilenko PF - Boozer C - Okur
i agree that bogut, paul, and m. williams are all gone by the jazz pick. Props on your forcast and I'd like more with somebody else beside harping, but the trade would lose it's value. Jazz need a NBA floor general. I can't think of anybody worth the pick (Idea?). What is the statis of J williams in memphis, he did produced fairly good numbers under hubie, imagine how he'd perform under Sloan. do think a trade with memphis could materialze? Do we have have anything they'd want?
The Grizzlies have a lot of decisions to make in the summer. They stand a chance to lose Stromile Swift and Earl Watson to free agency. I'm sure they wouldn't mind trading Jason Williams to Utah if they had a back up plan to replace him. The best floor general in the draft is Deron Williams, and the Jazz could always draft him at #4.
Do you think deron is NBA ready? Deron, was man this past season, but the jazz don't need any more "ready in a year" players. they need immediatly wins. With lopez's durability in question, Livingston has been a filler, Eisley is getting close to the end, Mckleod is all that is left and I'm not positive he will be back next year. PG postition need's some serious attention this summer.
Deron is definitely NBA ready. He has the size to compete in the pros, he has a high Basketball IQ, and he's consistent. The only question marks around him is his lateral quickness. Can he stay in front of other guards? I think he answered a lot of critics in this regard in the Tournament. He was able to lock down his man in the Final 4 and championship games.
The Jazz obviously need to address the Point Guard position in the draft. Provided they don't get lucky, they should have the 4th or 5th pick. The best Point Guard at that spot should be Deron Williams. By drafting him, the Jazz should have their Point Guard of the future. However, Williams would need to contribute immediately for the Jazz in his rookie season if they are to make a playoff push. Kevin O'Connor may decide to trade picks and/or players for a more established Point Guard who he can be certain will do an effective job for Utah, rather than relying on a rookie.
