<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Globe and Mail reported in Friday's edition that Richard Peddie, president and chief executive officer of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, and Raptors general manager Rob Babcock are being targeted by MLSE board members. Several sources with close ties to MLSE say the two men likely face job performance reviews at season's end.

The job security of head coach Sam Mitchell is also reportedly in question, with the Raptors sitting at 30-44 and on the brink of missing the playoffs for the third consecutive season. As much attention has been paid to the team's off-court turmoil, which included a well-publicized dispute between Mitchell and Rafer Alston earlier in the season that resulted in the point guard considering retirement.</div>

    Sayonara Babcock & Peddie?

Future of Peddie, Babcock in jeopardy

    By ROBERT MACLEOD
Friday, April 8, 2005 Updated at 2:19 AM EST
    From Friday's Globe and Mail

Growing dissatisfaction in the boardroom with the abysmal performance of the Toronto Raptors appears to be leading toward another front-office overhaul after the end of the National Basketball Association season.

The two people in the crosshairs are Richard Peddie, the president and chief executive officer of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, the company that owns the Raptors and the National Hockey League's Toronto Maple Leafs, and Rob Babcock, the embattled first-year general manager Peddie hired to help guide the club's fortunes this season.

According to multiple sources with close ties to the MLSE board, the job performance of both men are under review as another disappointing Raptors season is about to draw to a close with a whimper.</div>

Ohh god please yes. I mean i dont hate Babcock but he is an idiot. I mean i've made peace with him trading Carter, would have happened with anyone else as a GM, but i mean first of all u didnt get a good trade out of it, and second of all u gave him up to a DIVISION RIVAL.

Never a dull moment in this city.
I'm all for firing Peddie, but why would you fire Babcock and Mitchell when you knew far too well that it'd take at least two years to turn this thing around?

As much as I hate Babcock, I don't think it's wise to let him go. Our franchise has been very unstable in personnel the past few seasons and getting rid of Babcock and Mitchell would not fare well with our players, especially Bosh who might sign an extension this summer. Firing Peddie would make more sense as he doesn't really have much to do with basketball operations and without him, the team would still operate. Babcock should be fired, but not now when it's just his first year on the job.

Fire Peddie. Thats all I got to say. Put a basketball guy at the president position and stop hiring this hockey BS. Peddie has done nothing but run this franchise to the ground. We need someone that knows more about basketball than the average fan to make decisions regarding the Raptors.

Although I think it wouldn't be fair to let go of Babcock I must say that I'm not against that decision at all. I mean this guy drafts Araujo without even bothering to SCOUT the guy in the first place for gods sake. Then he makes the VC trade. Then he gets a brain freeze on the trade deadline. Sorry if I seem a little bitter but almost nothing this guy has done so far has been positive. Other than having Raptors fans look foward to having 2 picks this year he has done NOTHING.

AND forgive me if I don't trust the Babcock family bloodline. After the debacle in Atlanta he still has his brother consulting him regarding moves with the Raptors? Awful.

I would want to give this guy more time but all he has done is lose 99% of my confidence in him this season. AND IT'S ONLY SEASON#1!!

Get rid of Peddie, Babcock though I don't like him should stay, we've had too many movements in the last few years, but if we get someone else who's good, then do it, just don't get rid of him for some no name guy. Mitchell should stay also. Peddie, no, no need for you buddy...

Give Alex English or Wayne Embry Peddie's Job haha

Fire Peddie. Don't care if Babcock stays or goes. Mitchell better stay, because he's a good coach for a rookie, and will only get better.

Anyways, lol..we shouldn't fire Sam Mitchell...for sure..the guy's the only who can put up with the drama of this team and he's actually a good coach. In my opinion.

As with Babcock, I don't hate the guy either but I think we should fire him as well. He's made stupid decisions that sometimes led to the controversy of this team.

Are you sure Mitchell is not part of the drama?
Playing "wrestling" with Carter, challenging Alston for a fight. Kicking Alston and Woods out of the game for getting technical fouls. Player after player asking for trades. If you think Kevin O'Neal was harsh, welcome to the Mitchell bootcamp. Except, he has lost control of the bootcamp.

As for Babcock, stupid decisions "SOMETIMES"??? All i know is he took the franchise back 10 years. EVERY decision was stupid so far.
    1. Hoffa - do i need to explain that one?
    2. Alston - If it wasn't for babcock, Rafer would still be a back up guard somewhere making minimum money
    3. Carter - we gave a top 5 player for a No.15 (76'ers) pick, a No.22 (Nuggets) pick, a guy with one kidney that cost us $10 mil, a guy with one eye (E. William) who's asking for a trade despite playing like crap, and a guy with one leg (Aaron Williams). Way to go!
    4. Marshall - Everyone on the planet knows Marshal will not sign with toronto again and we won't make the playoffs. So why keep him here and pay him money when we could have gotten ANYTHING!!! out of it even if it was a 2nd round draft pick.

I believe that's all the moves he did this year. He's batting 1000 so far in screwing up! Or should we give him some more time and wait and see???

Bottom line: Get rid of everyone except the Air Canada Center and Chris Bosh.

last summer during the draft-norma wick interviewed alex english outside the raptor war room and he was all mesmerized by josh smith, saying he has what it takes to be star. minutes later babcock after the pick came out really cocky and declared that "hoffa" was nba ready, almost promising that bosh and "hoffa" would dominate nba front courts for the next decade. hoffa will be out of the league in two years and looks like josh smith is destined for stardom.

More on firing Peddie (Thank God!!!)

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> It is an indictment of the state of the Raptor franchise that another spring arrives not with expectations for the playoffs or the promise of a brighter future but with questions about the suitability and long-term employment of senior officials.

But as the team lurches to the end of another horrible season, destined to miss the playoffs and failing to show much pride or professionalism as a group, that's precisely where things stand.

The two men caught in the crosshairs now ? the president of Maple Leaf Sports and the man he hired to turn around a franchise stumbling to another horrible record ? say they remain sure they'll be around to oversee the reconstruction project.

Richard Peddie, who doubles as the chief executive officer of the sports conglomerate, and Rob Babcock, his hand-picked basketball general manager, maintain they'll get the time to implement was is at least a three-year plan despite a published report that higher-ups in the organization are clamouring for their ouster.</div> Source

What I really don't understand is the constant view of change with all the fans. If you get rid of the foundation over and over again, you wont be able to build the house. If you keep dismantling the front office of a franchise the team will lose; every year. In other words: give it time. If one single person thought that it would take less than a season to turn around this team you were kidding yourself.

Everyone is way too impatient - you can change everything in the front office all you want, it still doesn't improve the product on the floor. People tend to forget that the Raptors have had a recent history of getting clogged up with big contracts (Vince, Jalen), this makes it hard to not only trade these players, but to sign surrounding ones as well, a GM can only do so much. Rob Babcock was brought into an awful situation, and he is taking the blame - thats pathetic.

After the end of last season I thought it would take around two to three years for even a small turnaround in this franchise. It is always dark before sunrise, you have to be patient.

keep peddie..keep babcock, keep mitchell. we need stability. To many people keep going back to the vince trade and what we didnt get for him. You gotta remember, that Vince was playing like a moron then. horrible %'s, 15 points a game not even trying on defence. Sitting out 4th quarters, injured at the time. EVERY fan was calling for babcock to hurry up already and trade him, because his attitude was causing us to loose games. I think Babcock got has much for him has he could of. The two picks will come in handy for sure, and who knows we might be able to draft a player has good or better than Vince. Even if they're not has good...2 potential lottery picks aint bad.

well he may have not been when he was with toronto, but right now he definitely is. scoring 30+ points per game and a lot more, hes def. a top 5 player right now. without him the nets would probably be already eliminated from playoff contention.

I don't see why we shouldn't fire Peddie, some people are making it seem like he makes any important managament decisions, except to screw us. I think he's useless, and hasn't done much good for the team. His absence won't affect the future of the team at all, I agree that we keep the other guys, because we can't keep changing every year.
