Why can't he just say, "Don't know, but I would LOVE to have him back next year"? It sounds like he doesn't want Phil back next season.
I'm mid way through the Last Season(the book that Phil Jackson wrote) , from what I see right now, I don't think Phil Jackson is # One on Kobe's list for the coaches taht he would want.

Getting Brown is going to take a lot of things to fall in place first. He has to leave Detroit for starters, and then he has to agree to coach the Lakers.

He's just being politically correct and neutral in his stance. Kobe knows that anything and everything he says will start a media frenzy. He's just focusing on the task at hand, which is finishing out the season with some pride at least.
please....is brian grant's 11 mill contract not big enuf? lakers can just get a solid coach like flip saunders or even paul silas...when u have a great player in kobe , spend more money on the supporting cast rather than a coach....seriously.
