<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Emeka Okafor appears a slight favorite to win rookie of the year, but it's still too soon to make space on the mantle for a trophy. The Observer and the Chicago Tribune surveyed dozens of likely voters among reporters and broadcasters who regularly cover the NBA. The tally: 26 votes for Charlotte Bobcats forward Okafor, 19 for Chicago Bulls guard Gordon, seven undecided and none for other rookies. About 100 media members -- three covering each of 30 teams, plus various national writers and broadcasters -- will cast votes by April 21, the day after the regular season ends. Mike Monroe, who writes for the San Antonio Express-News, summed up the consensus: "I don't think (No. 1 overall pick) Dwight Howard outshines either one. But those UConn guys? No wonder they won" the NCAAs last year. Okafor and Gordon spent three seasons as teammates and roommates at Connecticut, leading the Huskies to the 2004 college title. Okafor was chosen second overall and Gordon was the third pick. Okafor started faster, averaging a double-double in points and rebounds almost from the season's outset. He has 43 double-doubles this season and leads all rookies in points (15.3 per game) and rebounds (10.7)</div> Link I think Okafor has a very good shot at winning ROY. He has done wonders for this Bobcats team this season putting up contstant double doubles and being one of the higher scoring rookies behind Ben Gordon.
He has a very good shot, but I think it should go to Ben Gordon. He comes off of the bench and his ppg level is up there with Emeka's. The Bulls are also in the playoffs, a lot of that accomplishment goes to the impact Ben Gordon has had. He is killer in the 4th quarter, I think he deserves it over Emeka.
Okafor In my ballot, which of course in inconsequential, I have Okafor by the slimmest of margins over Gordon. I wouldnt be suprised to see them share it.
