Fratello & Williams at Odds <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Memphis Commercial Appeal is citing team sources that suggest that point guard Jason Williams "unleashed a profanity-laced tirade" at head coach Mike Fratello after the coach elected to use backup Earl Watson in the final 17 minutes of a win over the Bobcats on Sunday.</div> Source
Jason Williams never fails to amaze me. He's close to 30 years old now, but he's still acting like an 18 year old. He's always got to have his way and is always very unpredictable and unstable. This kind of conflict is the last thing that we need a few weeks before the playoffs, and if I'm not mistaken, the Grizzlies were up on the Bobcats at the time, and Jason Williams wasn't exactly having the game of his life (2 pts in 22 minutes). I can see why coach Fratello would want to bench him.
It wouldn't surprise me if J-Will gets traded sometime this offseason. I kinda figured that his time as a Grizz would eventually run out. Probably the same thing will happen to Bonzi. He's a good player, but his attitude as of late suggest he needs to go elsewhere and be placed in someone else's lineup. Probably Sactown or Denver.
I really thought J-Will would pull it together and step it up under Hubie, but with his age and Hubie's departure, it really proved me wrong. I don't know what they'll get out of J-Will with his low minutes and reputation, if he does get traded. It'll be tough as Earl Watson will be a FA.
The Grizzlies really have holes in their roster for the first time in two years. With Stromile Swift and Earl Watson likely leaving in Free Agency this summer, we we will be in need of a backup Center and Point Guard. Center is probably the hardest position to fill in the NBA, and it doesn't get any better than Stromile Swift as far as backup Centers go. As far as the backup Point Guard position, I think we're facing the same dilemma. We're not going to find a backup Point Guard in the draft or Free Agency that was as good as Earl Watson unless we get Antonio Daniels. With Jason Williams and Bonzi Wells both looking like they want out, it just further complicates things. I wouldn't mind seeing the Grizzlies packaging them to a team like the Lakers or the Blazers along with some other added incentive for a big time player that's on the block like Odom or Randolph.
some reason street ballers don't get along with their coaches very well. jus look at alston over at toronto. but there's always hope. jus look at AI this season wit the sixers. he stepped up to be a leader for his team. jus hope j-will can do so too.
