<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Charlotte Bobcats coach-general manager Bernie Bickerstaff plans to shut down center Primoz Brezec for the season's final five games. Brezec sprained his right ankle in the fourth quarter of Monday's 110-105 overtime victory against the Atlanta Hawks. Though Brezec wants to play in some of the remaining games, Bickerstaff says he'll veto that option. "I rolled it good," Brezec said of the injury, grimacing in pain. "(But) I'll come back this season." Bickerstaff said he appreciates Brezec's gesture, but it's not worth risking additional injury. Brezec is under contract to the Bobcats the next two seasons, and there's little to be gained from him limping through the final days with nothing tangible at stake. Brezec's absence will leave the Bobcats shorthanded inside in Wednesday's rematch with the Hawks. Figure on Melvin Ely to start in Brezec's place. Malik Allen, who sat out Monday's game with an illness, would be the only backup big man.</div> Tough loss for Charlotte. Brezec is the only pure Center we have on the entire team. I guess Ely should fill in for him fine, it's just that I don't like Ely playing the 5, his skill set is better suited as a 4.
Tough loss for my fantasy team as well. No sense in risking further injury, Brezec has a bright future with the team. Melvin Ely, did a decent job when Okafor went down, but the Bobcats will miss Brezec's scoring. I'd like to see them experiment with Okafor at the 5 spot, and give more PT to Carroll instead.
The one thing I like is how much his rebounding improved. Earlier he struggled to get double digit rebounds, but recently he has gotten more aggressive.
Tough loss for Charlotte. Brezec was having himself a good season and was finally getting the rebounding up there near the end of the season. However, no matter how much he wants to play in these last few games, there's no point in letting him. You don't want to risk tweaking the ankle again and injuring it even more. Maybe if the 'Cats were in playoff contention, I could understand him playing again. But, since they were well past eliminated, there's no need to risk hurting it even more. And it's like shape said, it's going to help the 'Cats get a better look at Ely potentially, and possibly see what Emeka can do as the center of the team.
