<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">There are a few things you can pretty much count on: death, taxes, Britney Spears gossip and Kevin McHale stepping aside as coach of the Timberwolves once this season ends. Just to be sure of that last one, I asked McHale on Monday if there was any chance he would coach next season. "No, I don't want to coach next year,'' he said. "I didn't want to coach this year." He still has that other job with the team, vice president of basketball operations. When it comes to basketball decisions, the buck stops with him. I asked McHale about that job, too, if he was thinking about leaving the Wolves and letting someone else deal with the massive migraine this team has become. "I'm not thinking beyond this year,'' he said. It was a subject he didn't want to wade into. He made that clear after a few more attempts to get him talking about his future with the Wolves. "You've got a lot of time on your hands,'' he said. "I'm lucky because when I croak I'm not going to be worrying about 10 years from now. I tell you what. I'm going to be able to lay on that pillow and go peacefully. I'm worried about today and tomorrow... . I've got to coach Wednesday night. That's my goal.'' Once there are no more games to be played, McHale will have to think about whether he wants to return. His boss, team owner Glen Taylor, will ask him to. "I will sit down with Kevin and talk to him about his enthusiasm and if he wants to keep the job,'' Taylor said. "If Kevin is interested and has enthusiasm to move forward, I have no intention to replace him.'' So, all McHale has to do is convince Taylor he still has passion for the job. "I don't want him to do it for me,'' Taylor said. "I want him to do it because he's enthusiastic about it. When that quits, then it's time for him to step back.'' It might be time for McHale to step back anyway, time for somebody else to take a crack at running the Wolves' basketball operation. It's not that McHale has done a miserable job. It's that a fresh approach is needed.</div> Source
In my mind, I want McHale out of here. It's time. I just don't think McHale is the guy for long-term. We need young players and his history of getting young players hasn't been good. I am not the only one who feels that way. Season-ticket holders has had enough of him from talking to a season-ticket holder.
