Forget the Western Conference standings. According to ESPN.com, the Nuggets as we speak are the best team in the business.

No really, I'm not making this up. The website's senior hoops writer, Marc Stein, Monday put the Nuggets No. 1 in his latest power rankings. Not bad, considering three months ago they ranked near the bottom.

"I couldn't deny them any longer," Stein said. "The way I do it is like this: Your current performance and overall team potential are factors, and my subjective whim is the hidden factor. I don't think anyone would tell you Phoenix, Miami and San Antonio aren't the best teams in the league, but given the current state of those teams, I couldn't rank any of them No. 1."

The Nuggets' stunning turnaround - they are on a 29-6 tear - has generated talk of George Karl being named coach of the year. To hear Stein tell it, though, that's all it is - talk.

"'I can't remember a year when a coach came on in midseason and sparked so much 'should he get coach of the year' debate like George has," Stein said. "I don't remember it ever being a discussion. It seems like we're talking about it every week, but no, I don't think it's going to happen."</div>

Amazing job by George Karl. I'm not sure if they are deserving of #1 in Power Rankings, but I never expected them to have a chance at a 50 win season.

29-6, wow. This goes kinda back to when the Nets brought in Lawrence Frank and they went on a tear.

Could George Karl be a high canidate for Coach of the Year? I think so. Like Marc Stein said, ""'I can't remember a year when a coach came on in midseason and sparked so much 'should he get coach of the year' debate like George has." He may not of been around the whole season but the NBA should seriously consider him.

Karl has done a terrific job with not only the Nuggets, but Carmelo Anthony. Carmelo looks like he is finally getting his head on straight.

Back to the Nuggets, they have been simply amazing, I wouldn't count them out for a title run if no one gets injured.

The Nuggets have been simply amazign as of late. Carmelo is finally playing the way everyone thought he could. KMart has been good. Camby has been good. Everyone on Denver has been playing great as of late. Karl has that team on a tear and I feel sorry for whatever team has to face them in the first round. 21-2 in the last 23 is simply amazing. Come playoff time, out West, they should be the team that no one wants to face in the first round right now.

Amazing [IMG] but after coach Karl's first game in Milwaukee when they rallied from 13 pts something down to beat them by 12 sth, I knew this team was for real. And the next day they came up big again with a win at Indiana. I predicted (on another ball site) they would lose just 7 games for the rest of the year to finish at exactly 50 wins. So far the loss is at 6, judging by the way they play, I wouldn't be surprised if they exceeded MY own expectation. That, of course, with the understanding of what teams we'll face: Memphis, Houston, and Phoenix.

Except that wasnt really a turnaround, they were already playing really well. I kind of think that Karl is getting a little bit too much credit for the change in play. This is a team that was predicted to be at the top of the west, and now they are doing nothing more than what they were supposed to do all along.

Sometimes a change, any change, can help a team improve play. Karl doesn't deserve as much credit as he is getting.

The Nuggets look very good. They beat the crap out of the Timberwolves Friday night at Minneapolis. George Karl has them playing at a high level. He has gotten the most out of his players especially Andre Miller and Kenyon Martin. Miller is playing his best basketball right now. He is very assertive and he is attacking the rim like you saw Friday night. Kenyon Martin is starting to get the ally-oop dunks and etc. He is starting to be Kenyon after struggling the first few months. It's just unfortuante that this team did not came to play this year under Jeff Bzdelik as he was fired in the process. I think Denver can win a first round series if they can avoid San Antonio or Phoenix. If they play Seattle, they will beat Seattle since they matchup much better.

Good to see George does well. I hope he learned his lesson from his failure with the Bucks in the end.
