heres some sites that says that the 3 point line is over abused and they should remove it what are your thoughts on this http://www2.indystar.com/articles/8/229325-5888-179.html http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/camp_experiment_041014.html
I was initially a proponent of limiting in prevalence by only having them count in the last few minutes of quarters or by putting a cap on the total number of 3s a team can score. I don't know if such a change would mesh well with the zone defenses which team's are now using, however. I'd definitely like to see more fluid offenses, and greater use of midrange jumpers. Maybe the pro players today are just too big and quick for that kind of game to be effective. In which case, maybe it's not a bad idea to expand the court as well.
IMO, eliminating the 3 point line would just kill alot of excitement and a little boost of help for teams. Even if they would allow 3`s for the final minutes of the games, I still think the same. Alot of players wouldn`t like it either, maybe it would confuse them a little on the court on when to shoot. They don`t have alot of free chances to look at the clock to see WHEN they can shoot a 3 pointer. The play of basketball may look nicer if the 3 was tooken away, but right now, its fine the way it is.
Yeah, hitting 3 pts can be as exciting as making slam dunk, and there is no way for NBA to kill one of the exciting aspect of the game. People like to watch exciting basketball, instead of fundamental basketball, or there is a no reason for such a poor rating of the TV rating of WNBA or Woman NCAA basketball. Also, the stat in first article is bit misleading, because overall defense in now a days are much better than 20 years ago, hence shooting % is bounded to go down...
What the hell that's stupid. The NBA will never remove the 3-pointer. Trust me. It's not gonna happen. If anyone watched that game with Donyell Marshall against the Sixers where he scored 12 threes, you'll know that they're just as exciting as dunks.
Even though its unfortunate to say but alot of players would be practically nothing as they are today without 3`s. Players such as Kyle Korver, Peja, Reggie (Even though he is retireing), Ray Allen, just to name a few.

They will kill you at the free throw line and they will kill you with the mid-range jumper. Removing the three point line doesn't change that. NBA just needs to put more effort into teaching ppl to shoot. Shooting is purely a matter of mechanics and repetition. Everyone can do it as long as they work on it. If everyone in the NBA took the time to work on their shots like the Reggie's and Peja's games wouldn't be so boring. When you watch the high scoring teams like Dallas, Sacramento and Phoenix those games are exciting to watch cause all starts are an offensive threat with their jumpers. When you can do damage with your jumper you are also harder to defend on the drive because they have to play you up close. Those teams barely have trouble breaking 100 each game. Nowadays players are picked on athletic ability. If you don't have the fundamentals like a handle and matching jumper you will be mediocre and boring unless on a fastbreak.
I really dont like this idea...shooting is an ART...if you can consistently drain shots from 23'9", then you should be allowed another point...3-pointers are just as exciting as dunking, IMO, and its always exhilarating to watch a great shooter go on a hot streak (i.e. Reggie, Peja, etc)...the 3-pointer has become an integral aspect of pro basketball and it should remain that way...

If you remove the three point line you wont have players (Antoine Walker) camping out on the 3 point line and chucking. You would see teams working it for better shots and more emmphasis placed on mid range jumpers. Scoring would go up as would 3 point %s. Overall I think it would help the NBA but I believe they should do what the NBDL does and include it for the last however many minutes of the game. By the way the idea actually originated, i believe, in Slam Ball where the 3 point line only applied the last 3 minutes of the game.
I agree with you JWohl, we do have some bigs who jack up 3s as if they're actually good shooters, but it is the coach's job to put those guys on the blocks where they belong...

Granted Walker never saw a three point shot he didn't like but the guy does have a mid-range game. I think there are few players that are a little too trigger happy from the 3-pt line but the lack of mid-range game is due to the many Eric Snows and majority of role players that can't hit a 15 ft jumper to save their lives.
definatley dont take away the three pointer. the only place that i think it might be used alot (not saying that this is all bad) is in the ncaa.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">How bout the NBA back the line up, like Larry Bird had suggested a few years back.</div>Like what...backing the starting lineup to 7 players or something?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting American Poet:</div><div class="quote_post">Like what...backing the starting lineup to 7 players or something?</div> Bird had mentioned backin the line up to 25'' I was watching an ESPN OTL (outside the lines) program, and they had something about the 3pt line. The NBA shouldnt remove it, and they shouldnt only use it for the last three minutes. I just think alot of players abuse it, but I think some coaches should get on those players.

He is also an excellent offensive rebounder but he is never near the glass cuz he is out near the three.
