<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">GREENSBORO ? The hoop hangs within arm's reach of Sun Ming Ming. The 7-foot-8 3/4 center positions himself under the basket and awaits a pass from trainer Keith Gatlin.

Ball in hand, Sun muscles his 350-pound frame into training partner Dshamal Schoetz, a 7-footer who played at Greensboro College who is nearly nine inches shorter. Sun pivots and places the ball firmly into the hoop. Swish.

Sun, who is from Harbin, China, is training in Greensboro for a shot at the NBA. His agent, Charles Bonsignore, paired the prospect up with former client and former professional basketball player Keith Gatlin. Gatlin, a managing partner with 334 Sports, a local firm that trains athletes, has worked with Sun for about five weeks.

"With his size, that intrigues everybody," Gatlin said. "He can really shoot the ball to be that size. The challenge for him now is to get mobile, to get up and down the court."

Sun also can handle the ball and has a sweet outside shot that swishes with the quick flick of his wrist. When it comes to dunking, he doesn't need to leave the ground.

Basketball, Gatlin will tell you, is not Sun's problem.

Sun's weakness is his flexibility and his lack of weight training. While playing for the Junior Olympic team and then Da Qing, his province's club squad, Sun never lifted weights and is just now building upper-body strength.

Trainer James Wilson, who coaches track and field at High Point University, has worked with Sun on his mobility for about five weeks.</div>

7'9 that is amazing, he's a living giant. Even if he learns some minimal skills, and learns the basics of how to play basketball, he should make the NBA.

I googled the name but couldn't find any information of this guy. I don't even know how old he is! If he is below 20, then I could see teams taking a chance on him with a second round pick, but from what the article described, he wouldn't have a NBA future if he was older than 22. Also, with that type of height, it would be pretty hard to stay healthy, and I'm sure that would scare off some teams.

7'9" is simply astounding. That however, could be a turnoff to some teams cause, I'd think at that height, staying healthy would be difficult.

With that kind of youth, he could definitely be attractive to many NBA teams. It all depends on his conditioning though and whether or not he has the skills to play in the league. He certainly has the height to be a good center, but height doesn't always mean anything. Just take a look at Shawn Bradley nowadays or George Mureasan (I have zero clue how spell his name).

Even if this kid has no clue how to play basketball he should enter the draft within the next couple of years. He will be a top 10 pick just for that kind of height. Man 7'9", that would brake all the NBA height records I believe. Any kid that doesn't have to leave the ground when he dunks gets my vote.

Jesus...7`9. I saw his hands in the pic and my mouth like dropped. What a force he would be when he comes to the NBA, which I`m guessing will be in the next 2-3 years, especially if he has a pretty good jumpshot.

Unbelievable. His height will be his gift and his curse. I can definitely see some teams taking a chance on him, even with only basic skills. Cannot wait to see him get dunked over!!!!

I swear the chinese use genetic engineering or something because the average national height is like 5 feet 7 inches. Either way, what really got me was the picture of him with the basketball in his hands. It literally made my mouth drop. If I was an owner I would definately use a 2nd round pick if not a mid/late 1st rounder on him. 7'9", 350 pounds? You don't even need any skill with that height

^nah. well i wouldn't rule it out, but China is pretty hard core with everythjing, when Yao mNing made the ump, they started testing Bone Marrow or something for growing potenntial, and anyone who grows tall is put on strict basketball training regimens.

As for the "tall chinese people" that's 2 out of how many million/billion chinese people? And I'm not surprised he's in Basketball, especially with China's training that they probably put him through.

And Ming? thats a common name, but his last name is sun, and yao is yao's last name.

nkwu said it all. Sun Ming and Yao Ming would be just like the difference between Chris Bosh and Chris Wilcox. No relation there. And the Chinese mostly aren't tall. Anything over 5-10 would actually be considered tall in Chinese circles. I'm 5-9 and the Chinese people I meet comment to my mother that I'm tall. It's just that they have a huge population, so there are bound to be a few giants.

The picture is just scary. The prospect of a 7'9 guy in the NBA is scarier. Please let the knicks get him [IMG]
