He is expected to return in June for the draft. China has three players in the NBA. In addition to Yao, there is Wang Zhizhi of the Miami Heat, who stands 7-1, and 6-11 Mengke Bateer, who played for three different teams from 2001-04.</div> Source According to this report he will be in the draft THIS YEAR. I'll try to find more on him when he plays for China's National team in May.
wow thats gonna be strange to see yao looking like a kid. But who would pick him up? he will probably go in the later rounds. If he works on his 3 he could be the next Manute Bol. Gosh that guy is gonna catch the wrong end of some nasty posters. Everyone is gonna want to be the first to dunk on the tallest man ever to play in the NBA.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting magnetik:</div><div class="quote_post">I wonder how many times he is going to be able to take his butt up and down the floor every night in the fast pace of the NBA. Once the other team either scores or his team gets the rebound they can just chuck the ball to the other end and he'll dunk it threw
i found this in a fantasy league im in its like 2008 or 9 in that league and hes gunna b in the next draft
alot of team would be interested with him, even though he has minimal basketball skills with that height WHO can guard him and block his shot!!! what does this people eat?? i think alot of things not found in our western diet! fried frog legs anyone?
damn, what are they feeding them over there in china! theyll be hitting the 8ft mark soon! if he stays healthy, and puts some bulk on , he should turn out alrite
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">block his shot!!! </div> The ball eventually has to come to rim level, so anyone who can grab the rim can block the guy's shot. BTW - I just noticed that he's currently on NBADraft.Net's "50/50" list for players undecided about entering the NBA draft.

Sun at center and Yao at PF, Mobo at SF, Sam perkins at the 2, and T-mac at the point. that would be Crazy. And if they played 2-3 zone that would be hillarious!

Two guys that can cover for each other </div> Hahaha. That is pretty funny. A triple tower formation, definitely not a penetrating guard's dream. Realistically speaking though, I still have to stand by my opinion that this guy will never be drafted. Basically the only positives about him are his height and shooting touch, and no one has seen him play. Manute Bol was 7-8 and he wasn't anything special, so why would Sun be a top 10 pick, like some said, just because he is 3 quarters of an inch taller than Bol?
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Basically the only positives about him are his height and shooting touch,</div> His height is one hell of a positive. It's not like when people say that Deron Williams' height is an advantage because he's two or three inches taller than most point guards. This guy's height advantage over most centers is around nine or ten inches. That's beyond just an advantage. As for the Manute Bol comparisons, is it just me or does this guy seem a lot thicker than Manute Bol? Not only that, Manute Bol was 7-6, not 7-8. You also have to consider than Manute Bol was 23 when he was drafted. There's a big difference between a raw 23 year old and a raw 19 year old. If Bol can draw a high second round pick in a taller NBA in 1985, then I think a younger, thicker, and three inch taller Sun Ming Ming can draw a first round pick.

Look at Darko. He was a #2 pick just for being a 7' 18yr old. Yeah Sun might not be a top 10 pick but he is a first rounder easily.

Yeah Sun might not be a top 10 pick but he is a first rounder easily.</div> My reasons for thinking so: 1) Sun is not getting a lot of attention, if at all, media-wise. Darko had a lot of buzz around him. For a guy like Sun that I doubt had ever been scouted by the NBA, he won't be a first rounder. 2) He has two assets right now: height and shooting touch. The article mentioned nothing about his shotblocking, rebounding, defense and other aspects of the game. It did say that he was terrible at conditioning before and has improved, although it's still not ideal. When an article mentions nothing about other aspects of his game, I highly believe that it is omitting his weaknesses to help draw more buzz. 3) He himself hopes to be drafted. That definitely doesn't say much about his chances. Everyone knows him/herself best, so I'd believe what he thinks. 4) He was playing for China's U20 team at age 18, and he's still playing for them at age 20. That definitely doesn't speak much about his development over two years, and especially with the Chinese National team presumably looking for big men after the Wang ZhiZhi saga. Yi Jian Lian, age 17 and 7 foot, made the Chinese national team over Sun. That should speak volumes about their discrepency in skill.
DAMN!!! That picture of him holding the ball is crazy. I feel bad for Yao, this dude, and Sean Bradley. They are always on posters at least. LOL

If he had showed any kind of basketball skill in a workout I would take a chance on him in the second round. That size is just unbelievable.
That's just freaking amazing. The only downside of Yao is his athletisicm(sp?) he's not mobile enough to speed by people. Also, Yao doesn't use his strength enough, he always backs off from a player when posting up. If this 7'9 player can get his speed up, it would be amazing. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Trip:</div><div class="quote_post">And the Chinese mostly aren't tall. But because the northern, eastern parts of China are still farm towns, you never get to see them. My mom has relatives in China and visits there all the time, that's what she told me. But anyways, I love visiting China and Taiwan because I'm the tallest person there. I'm chinese, a girl, and I'm 6 feet so

In the end, whose team won? Last season, Yao outdid Shaq in their season series. I don't know how you say Shaq has always dominated Yao everytime the two met. Btw, how old is Sun? 19, 20, 21? Reports vary.
