On April 15th at halftime - The Boston Celtics honored Ricky Davis by awarding him with the 2005 "Sixth Star Award". Fans voted on what Celtic player they thought represented Celtic Pride the best. Who do you believe should have won the award?
I think Ricky is the best choice for the award. He has proved himself as the textbook example of Celtic Pride. Here's a guy that supposedly had lots of problems playing in other cities. Now he's swallowed his pride and has accepted a role off the bench. He knows what it means to be a Celtic.
^^That's probably it in a capsule. When RD arrived in Boston, there were many people who said things like "he'll be a cancer" etc. Where are all those people now? Quiet and dismissive of those concerns, that's where. I'm not saying those concerns weren't rational either. There was enough to justify them, for certain. RD went to the bench. He doesn't complain, doesn't get into off-court trouble and has, for lack of a better term, been a model citizen and continues to put forth very good #'s. The question is why? Well, I've said it before and I'll repeat it: He's found a place that he feels is home. He's comfortable, feels respected and is showing it. He gives for the team, not just himself anymore. That exemplifies Celtic Pride, IMO, and he got my vote.
