LeBron a Knick? Very interesting clause in LeBron's $90 million Nike contract...

On ATH today, Jay Mariotti brought up a point about a clause in LeBron's Nike contract which states that his $90 million contract could be worth well over $100+ million if he played for certain NBA teams, namely the Knicks and Lakers. This gives him even more of an incentive to not sign with the Cavs longterm and go somewhere else.

    Things aren't looking good...

LeBron shouldn't base his professional basketball decisions on a Nike endorsement deal.

Who are you telling him what he shouldn't base his decisions on?

You know, if LeBron wants to go, then let him. Just go to the Knicks where you'll never make the playoffs but at least you'll get the zillions of dollars you're wanting.

if LBJ went to the Lakers then i would die a very happy man [IMG]

but i doubt thats gonna happen. the Organization cannot afford to keep these two guys on the same team. The ego would also be a problem if ever they were in the same team. but hey who knows? stranger things have happened...

thats for almost every player ni the league if they play for teams like ny chicago and los angles thats why kobe was thinkinh about ny because evn though ny couldnt pay him the amount that la was he would still make more because nike would give him roughly over 150 mill

If NY got him via trade they could give him as much as the lakers could. BTW the nike contract first off nearly doubles the money and second is only for 3 cities, NY, LA, and Boston

Does someone have a copy of this contract?

Because people keep mentioning more and more teams involved in this "nike clause" and I'm really not buying it

I hope LBJ doesn`t ruin his future just for a Nike Deal. Its like depressing to see that players just care about the money. It all depends on the Cavs future mostly. If it looks good, he`ll stay. If it doesnt, he`ll be packing his bags.

LeBron isn't stupid enough to make career decisions based on a shoe contract, especially not for a 10 million or so difference. He's going to make a ton of money during his career in the NBA, 10 million is nothing to him.

I trust he'll sign with the best situation for him and not for monetary reasons.

He may not make the decision based on money. It may be based on a championship. look at these teams like NY and LA they have a winning reputation.

Also on his contract, it states if he plays for one of 3 big cities, LA, NY and.,.......Chicago cause of Jordan, he will get roughly the same money.
It matters if he wants the money, but more if he wants the championship! based on the cavs performance after the new management took ova, it may be sooner then later that lebron will move.

First off, it is way more than 10 million extra. It is about 7 /8 million PER YEAR extra which is to ANYONE a lot of money. And if he isnt going to have the players around him to win in Cleveland why not at least go and make some more money?

^ and why not go to one of the other half-dozen or so teams that have a shot?

Why do writers in New York automatically assume that everyone wants to play for them?

The point of him leaving would be to earn the kick in the nike contract and get out of the poor situation in Cleveland. The knicks could offer LBJ a better supporting cast than the Cavs have. The only other teams that are potential possibilities are the Bulls, who are content with their group they have right now and wouldnt want to shake it up, and the lakers who are just as bad as the knicks.

cleveland is his home. i thought he was very happy playing in cleveland. he would be a marked if he ever left cleveland. i dont think that is gonna happen sure going to the lakers is great because of the numerous amounts of great players going to LA. Knicks.... u know why. i just dont see him in another uniform.. sorry i dont think it'll happen.

I fail to see how the Knicks have a better supporting cast, epsecially since getting Redd in Cleveland is a real possibility right now.

I suppose you mean Marbury, who has a ton of talent but has never taken his team beyond the first round of the playoffs and doesn't make his teammates better. Or maybe you mean Crawford who has the same reptutation as being a "me first, shoot first player". I don't think that's the kind of situation LeBron is looking for.

I fail to see how the Knicks have a better supporting cast, especially since getting Redd in Cleveland is a real possibility right now. With Ilgauskas and Gooden, that would be a much better team than anything the Knicks could offer.

It's also ridiculous to think that a team wouldn't want LeBron because it might ruin their chemistry.
