<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Marvin Williams and Sean May to Enter 2005 NBA Draft Inside sources, close to the North Carolina program, informed NBADraft.net Tuesday morning that UNC forwards Marvin Williams and Sean May will both enter the 2005 NBA draft. Marvin thought long and hard about returning for his sophomore season, his family even inquired about the impending age rule with the NBA, but in the end decided it was too much to risk with a guaranteed spot in the top 3-5 picks in the draft. WIlliams is considered by scouts as a likely top 3 pick, while May is seen as a mid to late first rounder, most likely to end up in the 15-22 range. The move makes sense for both players as their draft stock is in great shape after their performances in helping lead North Carolina to the National Championship.</div> Click here for Full Report from NBAdraft.net
one word One word: OUCH!! But I hate UNC so its all good . The more talent in the draft that will be drafted before the Knicks pick the more there is left when they pick
We Warrior fans are in the same position as Knick fans,if Marvin does go early,it helps us. I am very surprised May is declaring, assuming This is more than a rumor. May will be a good pick for someone if he does enter. Probably he will drop more weight,be in good shape for a PF role
yeah this really hurts the Tar Heels obviously, but they'll be back another year or so with recruiting...Williams couldve used another year in school, but May coming out makes sense since he had a great postseason run...

May gets rated mid draft in spite of being the force leading NC to the top. Marvin W didn't have a great postseason, some ups, some downs-yet still is projected as a top 5 lock. So why is that so? Simple, lookat them. Marvin looks like the prototype power F,runs like the prototype small F. May? He looks chubby,he's an inch-a whole fricken inch shorter than Chris "Sleepwalk" Taft-and so can't play C. He does not look like a Karl Malone clone-so can't be much of a PF. If,however,May dropped 10-15 pounds, returned all toned and buff, suddenly he does look like a PF-and he gets full credit for being a player with star quality. Ironically, half the young kids in the mock rd 1's,are guys who, before they start in the league, need to do some serious development.
Press conference is set for the UNC Trio for Friday. Usually when players have a press conference they are announcing they won't be back. I want all these players declaring so the Lakers have more options and can get quality picks in round 2. REREM that's a great take on Round 1. There are a lot of players in the draft who can come in and help right away, but those players are going to be passed up for question mark talent. When these players don't develop the scouts and GM's who made the selections have a million and 1 excuses for them, too.
If I'm a scout and I recommend a couple of consensus All America's who scored 24 a game,a GM might say,who needs scouts who come up with something so obvious-we could just buy a Street and Smiths and save $50,000 a year...so scouts want to advocate some 6-11 Albanian high school kid who can't tie his own shoes-but has the "potential" to be just like Patrick Ewing (when pigs fly). When the kid is a dud, someone gets blamed, but the scout,GM,maybe got luckier the next year...or maybe work nights at the Quick Stop.
Seriously though,it makes looking ahead real hazy. Almost everyone with even a fantasy of getting picked appears to be declaring, but half are keeping options open, and a lot will bail when it looks like they will get picked far later than they hoped-or not at all. Further,,the players who withdraw might not be the obvious ones. The result will be that teams will be readjusting plans up to the last few days and even then some guy will get picked where nobody expected and it will scramble it even more. Its good to have backup plans-several backup plans.
I know I've been in hiding as of late, but I've been trying to hold out for when some real Draft things get kicking off, such as pre-draft workouts and the Chicago Camp, but, I am here to say, I will not be leaping from the 34th floor of my office. Just when we get back to where we are supposed to be, it all explodes in our face. As is the way of college basketball today, but, I still wish Marvin would stay. I'm not doubting the ability of Coach ROy and the class we have coming back, but it's a sad day in Chapel Hill, just weeks after the most glorious day in years. Excuse me while I take one step out this window!
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina players Sean May, Raymond Felton and Marvin Williams are entering the NBA draft, leaving the NCAA champion Tar Heels without their top seven scorers for next season. ``I've coached a lot of great players and these three here are at the top of the list,'' coach Roy Williams said during a news conference Friday on the floor at Dean Smith Center. Junior guard Rashad McCants already decided to leave early and Jawad Williams, Jackie Manuel and Melvin Scott completed their eligibility. ``It's been a lot of tough times, and it's been a lot of great times, especially winning the national championship this year,'' Felton said. May addressed the coach, who joined his players for their group announcement. ``I really didn't know the talent I had and when you came here, you brought that out,'' May said. May had said immediately after the season that he would be back, but the burly, 6-foot-9 center backed off in recent days. He was magnificent during the NCAA tournament, averaging 22.3 points and 10.7 rebounds while shooting 67 percent. Williams said May's decision made sense considering he was voted the outstanding player at the Final Four. </div> Source It's official all 3 are going pro.
So sad to see them all go, it looks like UNC is going to have a real bad year this coming year. Maybe some people will jump off the bandwagon because it's getting too crowded .
Do you think Roy Williams would trade his championship to get those players back? I doubt it. It's inevitable, most players will defect to the NBA after they win the NCAA championship (that is if they even opt for college-ball). The real surprise would be when a player actually decided to stay especially when they know they will be in the top 10. Sad, but true.

Jay Williams, Carlos Boozer, and Mike Dunleavy all stayed after winning a national championship in 2002, and they went on to the Elite Eight the next year.
It sucks so bad we will be losing our whole starting lineup. The only quality player coming back is David Noel, and he is just a great sixth man. He will have a hard time stepping into a top leadership role. I wanna see him play some football, and get into the NFL.

Anyway, good luck on winning four games next year with Bobby Frasor as your second best player.

Now, here are some examples of those who defected to the NBA before their Sr. year after they won the championship: 2004 - Ben Gordon, UCONN 2003 - Carmelo Anthony, Syracuse 2002 - Chris Wilcox, Maryland 2001 - no Dukies defected this year, due to coach K; but Williams, Boozer & Dunleavey did leave before graduating the following year. Those don't include players from teams that didn't win championships. Basically, if a player is told he can make it in the NBA, and might be a top 10 pick, many have bolted.

C Byron Sanders 6'9", 230 SR (0.8 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 0.3 apg) PF David Noel 6'6", 225 SR (3.9 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.5 apg) SF Reyshawn Terry 6'8", 215 JR (2.3 ppg, 0.7 rpg, 0.2 apg) SG Quentin Thomas 6'3", 175 So (0.8 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 1.3 apg) PG Wes Miller 5'11", 185 JR (1.9 ppg, 0.2 rpg, 0.5 apg) Recruits: F/C Taylor Hansbrough G Bobby Frasor G Danny Green G Marcus Ginyard They've got good recruits coming in, but they're not gonna be a typical UNC team next year... My prediction=17-14, NIT But I guess it isn't wise to bet against Roy Williams...Even if he is a jackass
