<div class="quote_poster">Quoting YSM5:</div><div class="quote_post">I was just wondering who do u guys think will win the MVP award</div> I'd have to say Dirk Nowitski, but it's a very close call between him and Steve Nash. I say Dirk just because I think he has less talent around him, but not by much, and the fact that he's the focal point of the team. If he struggles to score, the team struggles big time. He's also improved his D a lot. Nash, well, he's prolly the consensus pick. without him, who knows where the Suns would be? And Iverson deserves some big time consideration here too, cuz he played like the MVP down the stretch while his supporting cast (what else is new) sputtered-see Webber, Chris. But for some reason, I say Nowitski. Both Nash and A.I are good picks as well, but I've gotta go with Dirk.
I'm going with Shaq. Dirk is up there but the reason he probably wont get it is primarily because unlike the other three MVP candidates (Iverson, Shaq and Nash) Dirk has the best talent around him. Shaq has Wade, Nash has Stoudemire Iverson has... ummm... this is exactly why's he's an MVP candidate despite his team getting just the 7th seed and only being a couple games over .500. Dirk on other hand has 10 players who can all play. But Dirk is not the GM, and it's not his fault he is surrounded by great players. However, nevertheless he has stepped his game up to a completly different level, and unlike his previous seasons, this time around he will get MVP consideration and MAYBE, just maybe an All NBA First Team selection.

Here's a breakdown-this isn't just to rub stuff in your face, I wanted to post this anyways Dirk Nowitski: 38.9 min/pg, 26.2 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.3 spg, 1.5 bpg Nowitski's highest scoring teammate is Michael Finley (my boy from UW!!!) Finley's averages: 37.1 mpg, 15.7 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.6 apg, Allen Iverson: 42.7 mpg, 30.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 8.0 apg, 2.1 spg, 0.1 bpg Iverson's highest scoring teammate is Chris Webber (I struggled with putting him here, but I had to, cuz he IS the 76ers' second best player) Webber's averages: 35.4 mpg, 15.9 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.2 spg, 1.0 bpg Steve Nash: 34.3 mpg, 15.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 11.5 apg, 1.0 spg, 0.1 bpg Nash's highest scoring teammate is Amare Stoudamire Stoudamire's averages:36.2 mpg, 25.9 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.0 spg, 1.6 bpg Shaq's stats: 34.1 mpg, 23.0 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 2.7 apg, 0.5 spg, 2.3 bpg Shaq's highest scoring teammate is Dwayne Wade Wade's stats: 38.6 mpg, 24.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 6.8 apg, 1.6 spg, 1.0 bpg Now obviously, these stats do not tell the whole story. Dallas has a pretty deep team-including Nowitski, they have 6 players who average 10+ ppg, and so do the Suns. Miami features 5 players who average double figures, and Philly has 4. I just posted these stats for the sake of showing who really is a one-man show on their team. It appears to me that Nowitski and Iverson are the most responsible players on their respective teams for the success of their teams. Shaq has one heck of a #2 in Wade, so in my mind, he doesn't deserve top consideration. Is he the most dominant force in the league? Yes. But is he the most indispensible to his team? No. So my vote still goes to Dirk, but again, Nash and Iverson are both choices that I would have no problem with. They've both proven to be extremely valuable to their teams.
Im saying Iverson because he has done so much for the sixers and he is THE MOST VALUBLE PLAYER TO HIS TEAM. I dont think anyone in the league is as valuble to their team as Iverson. And yes when Iverson plays the sixers dont have as bad of a record as it seems. they are actually 41-33 when Iverson plays which isnt as bad as their overall record. I do think that Shaq or Nash will probably win though
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">they are actually 41-33 when Iverson plays which isnt as bad as their overall record</div> that's irrelevant. what makes you think they will win all those games that Iverson 'would've' played?
Its Steve Nash.League leader in assists,PHX not in the playoffs last year and this year they won 62-63 games? Its Steve Nash.
I'm not being biased because I'm Canadian, as many people think. It's Steve Nash for me. Reasons: 1) How can Shaq be MVP when his team pretty much plays the same when he's injured?? 2) Phoenix was an absolutely horrible team last year. When Nash came this year, they emerged with the best record in the NBA. 3) The players on the Suns play way better than they did last year. He makes everyone around him better, such as Marion, Stoudemire, etc. 4) The Heat weren't that bad last year without Shaq. 5) When Nash isn't playing with the Suns, isn't their record like 0-4 or something?? I dunno that's what it was last time I checked.
unconventional I am going with Dirk Nowitzki. I know, not the usual pick but he has elevated his play extremely and has led, by far, the worst Dallas team in years to 58 wins despite having the PG position in influx, a coaching change and having key players go down throughout the year. The knock on him used to be his defense and rebounding but this year he is averaging 10 rpg and has stepped up his defensive intensity. He is the MVP in the NBA.
Steve Nash hands down. I'm not Canadian, but I wish I was, jk. Nash though has made the Suns a very fun team to watch and they got the best record too; while Nash runs their offense with leading the league in assists. I don't see how Shaq can get it over Nash. Dirk maybe next year even thought this year he really did skip up his game, easily the best foreign talent out there. A.I. has the best numbers out of all the candidates, but I don't know, I just think Nash deserves it this year. He nearly made Amare the dunk champion and has helped his teammates evolve their games. MVP - Steve Nash
Steve Nash hands down, and not just cuz I'm a Suns fan. He made his team much better. I don't even think Shaq is the MVP of the Heat. I thought Wade was a slightly better rounded player than Shaq. Shaq is dominant, there's no question about that. But wouldn't you be at his size. He's just developed a few skills that make him even better. At Nash's size, he can score in many ways, and has the most assists that anybody has had in the league for a while. He rebounded good enought to get him a triple double this season. But the proof is in his team. The Heat made the playoffs last year. This year they improved a little, and they got the 3rd best record in the league, best in the East. And they did it with an average experienced team. The Suns had the second worst record in the West last year, and failed to make the playoffs. In just one year, they meshed fast enough to run away with the best record in the NBA. That's a huge turnaround, and while I understand that they brought in some more good players in Q and Jimmy Jackson, Nash made the entire team better, including the bench now that he's mentoring Barbosa. Hell, he even makes Steven Hunter look like a great C sometimes.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting holyace2k2:</div><div class="quote_post">He nearly made Amare the dunk champion and has helped his teammates evolve their games. </div> I FORGOT ABOUT THAT! LOL. let's just add that as another point as to why he is the MVP anyways, you know what? i dont think we have to worry about him getting MVP. he will get it.
i thin Nash deserves it but i dont now if he will win it. remember when kidd first came to the nets, he changed their team to one of best teams. he didnt get the MVP. its kind of the same situation
im gonna go with T-Mac with out him the rockets wouldnt be in the number 5 seed.and he can flatout dominate a game on both ends of the floor.
