dude, with Pietrus and Dunleavy, they're still pretty much good at the SF spot. Aleksandrov will only create a 4 man rotation between JR, Dunleavy, Pietrus and himself at the wing spots, which isn't really a good thing.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">also, i think that May would be a great fit in Golden State. He can play right next to Murphy, and he's gonna be able to run a bit, having played in the system he did at UNC</div>

Having May and Murphy in a front court won't be a good idea as May has no presence against the bigs in the NBA. Murphy isn't the greatest defender either. Atleast with Taft you will get defensive skills which is important in the West.

    dude, lol

i don't think they should take another SF. i think that adding some more frontcourt muscle is the key. as long as B diddy is healthy, he and JR and pietrus with dunleavy is just fine. and fischer with his 3pt shooting and D. i think that if they can get another big guy, like May or something, the warriors will be playoff contenders next year. i really like the direction they're going in. [IMG]

    now i'll edit mine [IMG]

i dunno if taft is the guy you want. he's taller, more athletic than may, but i worry about his work ethic. it didn't seem great in college, and if i were G.S i'd go with the polished, hard working may. but we'll see. a lot can happen before the draft.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Banks:</div><div class="quote_post">Why do the Clips take May? You got your frontcourt set with Brand and Kaman, and you also have Wilcox (likely to be traded soon or get PT next year) plus Rebraca and co. May wouldn't be used as a lottery pick by the Clipps to only play about 20 MPG throughout his rookie contract. </div>

Fair questions. We expected both to be challenged so here is the rationale behind those picks.

Sean May does not fill any need for the Clippers because they have those players you mentioned above. However, the Clippers usually don't draft for needs. Last year they drafted Shaun Livingston when they already had Marko Jaric and Keyon Dooling (free agent), plus Lionel Chalmers. A year before for that they drafted Chris Kaman, when they already had Wilcox & Ely. The Clippers have a history of taking the best availalbe talent, and Sean May at #12 is the man for them.

Also, Donald Sterling is always looking to shed salary, and if May can do the same things Elton does, for a fraction of the cost, don't be surprised to see Elton dealt. It also gives them insurance in case they lose Wilcox, or if Brand gets injured.

The Clippers are going to make a push for the playoffs, and their only real need is a shooter. They will address that need in free agency though. If the Clippers struggle early don't be surprised to see Brand being shopped around.

    <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Banks:</div><div class="quote_post">
Also, why do the Lakers take Taft and not the Warriors? With the small frontcourt that GS has, Taft would be a better option than Aleksandrov. They already have the SF with Dunleavy, Pietrus and Najera. A front court with Murphy and Foyle with Cabarkapa as a backup definitely needs more help than the SF spot. Taft seems like a good option, although he is an undersized C, he should get time at the PF spot with the GS frontcourt switching up posistions based on matchups.

BTW I really like this Mock Draft. I have a few more questions, but these are the questions I have the biggest issues with.</div>

The Warriors take Aleksandrov because they can afford to wait on him. The Warriors are set at each position already, so they have the luxury on waiting another year for Aleksandrov to develop in Europe. He's still very young, at only 18 or 19. Last year he was projected as a top 5 talent if he declared, and some scouts had him going #1 overall depending on who won the lottery. Chris Mullin has always been intrigued by players with Aleksandrov's skill set. Plus the cap strapped Warriors wouldn't have to pay any money out to him while he played overseas, but they would own his rights.

Chris Taft could also be a good fit in Golden State. Chris Mullin likes his potential, but his poor work ethic is a label Taft needs to shed. It's possible he impresses in workouts, the combines, and if he plays in any tournaments. One down side about drafting Taft, means Biedrins might not develop as fast either. It will be hard for the Warriors to juggle Murphy, Taft, Biedrins, Cabarkapa, & Foyle.

Can't see the Warriors taking Taft. Biedrens has made enough progress that he's ahead of Taft. Foyle and Biedrens give a full tilt effort-does anyone claim Taft does? Mullin was a high technique overachiever as a player and won't be looking long at a guy who so far lacks that effort. Why isn't Diogu in this mock? He declared and I feel he's who the Warriors can and will pick.

We don't have Ike cracking Round 1 at this point, let alone the lottery. Ike Diogu is a solid player, but his height is going to kill his stock, especially if he measures at 6'7. He won't be able to play SF in the NBA, and at 6'7 he's going to struggle to get his shot off or be effective on defense. He has a great work ethic and is humble, which are refreshing qualities, but his height and lack of jumping ability makes him 2nd round material. You look at Diogu and wonder how much better can he really get?

Personally I think he will be another Sam Clancy.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on Ike, and why the Warriors would select him. Maybe we overlooked something.

I think that Diogu isn't bad, but his buzz is pretty low. I don't see him at a lottery pick either as I've discussed with Rerem in the W's boards, but I do think he'll end up being an outstanding player at the NBA level with his work ethic and his skillset and a possible 1st rounder. He's got a high basketball IQ and at least in college basketball, is pretty tough to stop.

I initially surprised to see Webster that high. It does make a bit more sense thinking logically about it though, as he's probably the best kid available at SG, and Orlando will be mindful of their future.

Diogu may be a value pick in the early to mid second round for a team but I think first is a reach because of his height. Like Shape said a comparison to Sam Clancy isn't far off, both players are under sized but played well at the college level. I can see Diogu being a solid backup forward at some point in his career but no more then 6 or 8 points a game, with that said he is a big reach for the lottery. The reason we got the Clippers drafting May is because he would be the best player on the board and it allows them if May turns out good to explore trades that would involve Brand. I am surprised nobody has brought up Gerald Green at number five yet [IMG]

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Voodoo Child:</div><div class="quote_post">Who are the top four big men in the draft? There's Andrew Bogut, Fran Vazquez, Martynas Andriuskevicius, and Chris Taft. Bogut and Andriuskevicius will likely be gone, and Vazquez could be too depending on who wins the lottery, so what are you complaining about? Every time we give the Knicks the best big man available and you always question him. The grass is always greener on the other side, isn't it?</div>
I know, but honestly, I'd rather have Taft than Vazquez. All of the scouting reports that I have read say that he doesn't have that much of an upside. They said he will probably become a player most likely devoted to blocking shots and hitting the occasional midrange jumper. He doesn't have many post moves and a 6'9ish tweener playing center will not be ideal. What makes you think Vazquez would be a good fit for the Knicks?

That's because it makes sense for the Blazers to take Green. They're solid at every posistion for the future, except for the SG spot. Telfair at Point, Outlaw at SF (Miles possibly on his way out), Z-Bo at PF and Przybilla/Ratliff at Center. Of course they do have the european players who they drafted in 2004, but neither can compare to Green. This team wouldn't certainly be young, as drafting Green would make it the 3rd straight year that they draft a HS'er in the first round.

I'm just hoping they win the lottery or something so they get Bogut and are able to trade away Przybilla to the Raps and give the Raps a chance to draft Green [IMG]

What's the explanation behind the Raps drafting Charlie at 16?!
If we grab Felton with our 7th, and both Sheldan and Rashad are available at the 16th, we'll be selecting one of them.

Charlotte isn't going to pick Marvin Williams. We have no need for a player like him. If anything they should go after Paul if NO doesn't pick him.

^ Yea I didn't comment on the top 3 selections, but I think Paul should be drafted by the Bobcats, with Williams drafted by the Hornets.

I think the Hornets like the backcourt of Dickau and JR Smith, and adding Marvin Williams will help them more than adding Paul to them right now. Although you couldn't go wrong drafting either of them. I just believe they have a bigger need at the SF spot than the PG spot. Keeping a core of Dickau-JR Smith-Williams will be something better to start off with than Paul-JR Smith-Nachbar/Nailon/Jacobsen/whoever. But their main priority, is getting new jerseys.

I've seen this in a couple of mock drafts now: Why has Mccants slid so far down the draft? He was considered a lottery pick before.

I always maintained that he wasn't worth a high pick. He's a 6'3" shooting guard. Only a few players at that height have done well in recent years - off the top of my head, Cuttino Mobley, Ben Gordon and A.I. managed to do well at SG, there aren't many other short shooting guards flourishing in the league, and all of them are more athletic than McCants.

To add to McCants drop in the draft was his subpar performance in the NCAA tournament. He's also turned out to be quite the headcase, using the analogy of playing college basketball as being similar to being in prison. He's undersized as Zhone mentioned, and his arrogant attitude has turned off a lot of scouts.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He's been labeled as selfish, a guy who only worries about his own stats. He's endured criticism for talking too much, bluntly comparing the college basketball experience to being in jail. Dan Dickau is a free agent, and he's probably not coming back to the Hornets. The Hornets are high on Chris Paul, and since they won the coin toss they would draft #2. If Atlanta take Bogut, Paul will definitely be taken over Marvin at this point. The Hornets want an explosive PG, and Paul will be able to push the tempo for the Hornets, similar to what Jason Kidd did in NJ, when Scott coached the Nets. The Hornets are going to throw their money at Stromile Swift to play PF.

The Bobcats would then take Marvin Williams and play him at SF giving them a frontline of Brezec-Okafor-Williams. That's a solid young frontcourt with an inside-outside attack.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, Banks. The W's don't need another tall small forward that could be burned every night at small forward and outmuscled at power forward. With guys like Zarko Cabarkapa who have been brilliant for the Warriors and Dunleavy who's finally getting it together, they don't need another question mark that they won't have playing time for or a player that they'll sign in the near future if there's a development league or they leave him in Europe.

I think the player that would solve the needs of the Warriors and work well in the running game would not be Sean May (if we traded down to a pick), but Tiago Splitter at #9. If you've seen some of his game it's sort of like how Pau Gasol started out for F.C. Barcelona playing small forward and eventually became a banger in the paint now for the Grizzles. With a solid 8-9 man rotation set for next season's Warriors, they get a player of need (big man with post game) that they can hold on to or use right away on some matchups, that bleeds a lot of potential, and can run in the open court and hit some midrangers. He also has high bball IQ, block shots, and play defense.

That's my mock #1 draft pick for the Warriors. Taft would be a solid option, but he didn't have a great performance and his future is probably at center unless he shrinks down to his normal weight. Too many danger signs about Taft, I'd probably go for Splitter based on the upside and the skill level and the type of active player he is.

I am a huge Laker fan and don't even start with them drafting Chris Taft. I am so excited that they got a lottery pick since they had very low pics the last 5 or 6 years. If the Lakers drafted Chris Taft, I would personally take out Mitch Kupcake. But anyway I don't think the Lakers would draft Taft because of his softness. They need a player thats physical and has an inside precense like Sean May but Sean May might be too slow to be a productive player in the NBA. Just don't draft Chris Taft.
