I swore to my uncle Jerry Buss that I will not divulge his name or the specifics involved in the deal. We had a family reunion sort of party. He told me about Mitch's plan for this summer. It is not set in concrete yet but the gist of it is this: 1) Will look to trade for a disgruntled allstar . This would be accomplished by either trading Butler (along with expiring contracts) or Lamar Odom + our #1 this year. I was very SURPRISED to hear the name of this player. If that plan falls through, the Lakers will keep their #1 (They are NOT 100 percent sure who they want to draft yet). It will either be a PG or PF. Somebody who they think will be able to contribute right away. There will be other smaller moves to try to get takers on some of the expiring contracts on the roster. Lakers have not decided the exact players they want to pursue but it will soon be set once the Lakers settle on a head coach. 2) My uncle did allow me to say this though. The Lakers have offered an "informal" contract to Phil Jackson. Numbers have been discussed and the contract will be negotiated and finalized within the next 3 weeks. With that said, he told him that Phil is noncommital about his return. If he were to gauge Phil's interest, it would be at 75 percent. I promised my uncle that I will not talk about specific players involved. I am sorry if this doesn't clarify anything but it tells me that at least Mitch is working the lines. I think I can say this much at least. The all-star caliber player that the Lakers will pursue is from a team that did NOT make the playoffs. Once again, do not flame or bash me. I am just so excited to share this info with you all. And if nothing happens this summer in terms of trades or signings, just know that it wasn't a lack of effort from the Lakers' front. P.S This Offseason will be one to be remembered for years to come!! And plzz can anyone not ask me for the last time if jerry buss is my uncle? cause its getting a little irritating.
wow, are you really related to Jerry Buss!? <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The all-star caliber player that the Lakers will pursue is from a team that did NOT make the playoffs</div> I hope to God your talking about either KG or Lebron.lol well i'm definitely excited to hear this news and i hope that what you said is all true.
does he mean a player that was an allstar in other years? cause he might be talking about illgalskis(spelling). damn, i sure don't want him up here. expecially for odom or butler, and even our first rounder. caron must stay. and we can get a better trade for odom than an old aging superstar. also, this better not be any made up crap like the jermain oneal and ron artest thread.
i?m a bit confused now !!! is jerry buss ur uncle?? maybe boozer but he a all star caliber player??or peja
Reading between the lines, it's not going to be KG, because if it was KG, the Lakers wouldn't be looking to draft a PF with their #1 pick. It's not going to be a SG or SF because the Lakers are set there, and it can't be a PG, otherwise they wouldn't be looking at a PG in the draft either. It sounds like it's going to be a center, but I hope it's not Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Other All-Star Centers over the past few seasons... Zydrunas Ilgauskas Jamaal Magloire Shaq O'neal Yao Ming Ben Wallace Brad Miller It's obviously not going to be Shaq, Yao, or Big Ben. I doubt the Lakers or Kings would make an inter-division block buster trade, so scratch Brad Miller off the list. This leaves Magloire and Big Z. Both are upgrades, but Magloire is much younger and he can play both PF or C. Having him on the team could allow Mihm to start and have Odom slide to SF. Based on your post it has to be Magloire. Odom is worth more than Z or Magloire, and Butler is worth less than Big Z, but is almost equal value to Magloire. Tell your uncle to fire Mitch Kupchak, that would be the best move he could make in the off-season.

The player that their looking to trade for...was he on the All Star team this year or is he an All Star calibur player? If I had to guess it would be Jason Kidd.
Butler + our #1 Pick for Jason Kidd makes no sense for the Nets, they already have Carter & Jefferson and SF. Odom + our #1 Pick for Jason Kidd makes is too, much to give up for him. I completely mis-read it the first time, I guess it can be any possible disgruntled All-Star. My guess is Ron Artest, Kevin Garnett (PLEASE), Magloire, or Ilgauskas? Off Topic - Tempted 2 Touch do you also go by the handle Chrome Hearts?
Lakers plainly need a new coach with some new additions to the roster. What kind of players do you guys think Kobe would get the ball to? I think the Lakers brass should take a look at what type of guys the Sixers brass surround Allen Iverson with. He is after all another high volume shooting guard that can make a team better with the right chemistry (Strictly blue collar guys, no complaints). Guys who can accept not having the ball and do their job and play defense. Those are the keys to making Kobe better and the team better. We've already seen Atkins get flustered by Kobe taking too many shots and we've seen Chris Mihm's offensive skills kind of go to waste. Lamar Odom, who can be sometimes volatile, is a player that's probably being used incorrectly in the Lakers offense to be as effective as he could be. I remember the Lakers looked really good when Kobe was setting his teammates up first and not taking shots until the very end and there was more effort on defense. The chemistry and the style of offense isn't there. Too bad Rudy T couldn't last long with those health problems or the Lakers would have been at least an 8th seed.
Woo hoo !! Cant wait for the off season upgrades to start... Hope that player is not Shareef Abdur Rahim!
Don't forget, the trade involves a team that DID NOT make the playoffs, so you can rule Jason Kidd out.
Garnett! wow. That would make the Lakers instant contenders. Give up Odom and the #1 pick for him. Plus extras if they want. maybe they might be talking to LB! haha.
cleveland will never let go of LB for the players that lakers will offer. lakers will have to offer someone like kobe.
Well, it's certainly no secret now that Phil Jackson is the top choice for the Lakers and the Knicks. Both teams are vying hard for his services. I wonder who their second choice is, if Phil decides not to go back to coaching? "Disgruntled" or at least unhappy former all-stars that are not FA off the top of my head: Steve Francis (really, really unhappy after Mobley left) Jamaal Magloire (who'd be happy on a last place team?) Ron Artest (not really "unhappy" with the Pacers as much mad at the world) Kevin Garnett (probably not happy to be on team that had such a drastic increase in losses) There's a few more possibilities, such as Sam Cassell, Wally Szcerbiak or Jerry Stackhouse, who are former all-stars, but make no sense in terms of giving up Odom or Butler, unless they were in it for Cassell's expiring contract. Ilgauskas would have to be a sign-and-trade, as he's a FA, which would complicate matters a lot. There are also near-all-stars who I didn't mention who could be targets. For Garnett, they'd need both Odom's and Butler's contracts to match it up under the cap, unless the Lakers had a trade exception somewhere. The rest would be straight up. The Garnett move is the least likely, because there's not enough incentive for Minnesota to give up it's franchise player, even if Garnett was unhappy. So, aside from the Garnett trade, would any of those moves put them over the top if they went through?
I actually like that artest Kobe combination. That sounds good to me. Artest , kobe, odem, I think phil could make that work. thats like mike scottie and kukoc. thats alot of defence/ offence. Im not a lakers fan but I am an Artest fan. But if im Indiana Im not letting Artest go hes such a unique player. But i guess were all just playing the waiting game.
First off....im not one to call anyone a liar or to discredit anyone in anyway. Also, im not one to have fallen out of a dumb-tree and bump my head on every branch on the way down. With saying that, for kicks....say that you are indeed JB's Nephew (lucky you eh?) and this info is indeed credible. Are there any hints you can drop? Im almost certain your uncle wouldnt send a lynch mobb to take you out because you dropped a few subliminals on JBB. After all, the majority of us were toiling over the whole "Booz" incident around Trade deadline this year. I personally would like Ron Artest(possible) Magloire(possible)...KG?(pipe dream) LBJ(see KG)

First of all, how dare you have the nerves to question my relationship with my uncle. I didnt ask you or anyone of you low lives to beleive me or not. If i say i am related to Jerry Buss then so be it. I dont say i am related to Jerry Buss just because he owns the lakers even though i am a very proud nephew. So who ever you claim to be i suggest you mind your own bussiness and not worry about mine. Let this be a warning to you. DMKfromTPL
^^^.....SMH. Chill out my friend, im a DIEHARD LA fan and watched EVERY LA game this year, no matter what. I would have to be a complete herb to actually be nieve and not question your entire post of you being JB's nephew....either way, i honestly hope you are. Beside all of that, pointing me out doesnt do anything.... me questioning you, is nothing more then me being...ME. Whats wrong with me being curious about the whole thing instead of marking out to you, JUST because you claim to be someone? Sorry cuz, but as ive said before....everyone is entitled to their OWN OPINION.
Lets not get carried away here. He may indeed be legit, he may not. I hope to God he is though. KG would be a pipe-dream. Same as Lebron, although a slight more of a possibility than KG. I can't see Kobe and Franchise sharing the ball without sacrificing either of their full potential. Trading for Artest would help beef up our sub-par defense, although I question his short temper.
