<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Phil Jackson, who coached the Los Angeles Lakers from 1999-2004 and earned three championship rings in the process, is scheduled to meet with Kobe Bryant in Los Angeles later this week.

The meeting could be seen as a step to Jackson possibly returning to coach the Lakers.

After all, in 2004, Jackson wrote a tell-all book called "The Last Season" about the 2003-04 season in which he characterized Bryant as being difficult to coach. In the book, Jackson wrote that he asked Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak to trade Bryant.

Jackson has already spoken to team owner Jerry Buss and plans to speak with him again soon.

If Buss were to re-hire Jackson, Buss would likely do so only after a new NBA collective bargaining agreement with the players' association is reached. The current CBA expires in July. </div>

Absence makes the heart grow fonder....ESPECIALLY in sports. When you lose something you didnt truly appreciatte or understand the importance of having them around....you learn quick lessons. LA has learned the toughest lesson of the FRANCHISE this year, you can go from Top notch, to rock bottom in only 82 games.

I love the LAKERS, i love everything they have always represented. I also love winning, and like it or not...... Phil Jackson wins championships...that simple. Granted, hes coached the greatest players ever...he always gets them to win. Mike and scottie never won a ring without phil and kobe and shaq never did neither.

But can LA take the phil pill again and form yet another Dynasty with Phil+KB8+??? = ????

I like how they skipped Mitch in the food chain of the Phil Jackson wooing. From Buss to Kobe instead of Buss-Mitch-Kobe. I'm still 50/50 on Phil returning. He's a great coach, but I can see him quitting like Rudy T did, because the players the Lakers have are pre-madonnas. To me, Phil has always been the coach to come in and take a championship talented team over the top. I'm not sure how he's going to do with a team still rebuilding. Phil has said Odom, Butler, and Kobe are the best trio in the league to run the Triangle, but with Odom out for 4 months, it's really going to prevent the Lakers from practicing and running the triangle effectively.

Also Phil Jackson hates playing rookies. Does this mean the Lakers trade away their draft picks, because in all likelyhood the player they draft will ride pine all year. Paying a guaranteed rookie contract for player who's going to just sit on the bench isn't in the best interest of the team.

Another concern is Dr. Buss claims he won't hire a new coach until the new CBA is hammered out. He doesn't want to pay a coach $10Million if the NBA is going to have a lockout.

This means the Lakers won't have a new coach signed until July. The draft however is in June.

^^ I have to disagree with this, Phil i think wouldnt ruin his Rep by quitting....he does tote 9 golden rings, and quitting after taking on a new challenge next year would be dreadfull.

However, i do agree that he doesnt play rooks much. Thou he does seem to like Luke (so i have heard), i trust he will assemble the Best possible player rotation LA can capitolize with. Which is why i welcome him with open arms.

First of all, how dare you have the nerves to question my relationship with my uncle. I didnt ask you or anyone of you low lives to beleive me or not. If i say i am related to Jerry Buss then so be it. I dont say i am related to Jerry Buss just because he owns the lakers even though i am a very proud nephew. So who ever you claim to be i suggest you mind your own bussiness and not worry about mine. Let this be a warning to you. DMKfromTPL

    Hey hey hey, calm down there..no threats...no e-bomb threats..they aren't cool..

I think we will see Jackson back here next year. If that happens, I don't see Lamar being traded, which kind of bums me, because personally, I think Lamar doesn't fit no matter where we put him in any offense alongside Kobe.
