<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Mississippi State signee Monta Ellis will declare for the NBA draft instead of going to play for the Bulldogs, Ellis told ESPN.com on Monday afternoon. The Lainier (Miss.) High scoring guard is rated as the second best player in the high school class of 2005, according to scouthoops.com. He said he is in the process of interviewing agents and will make a final decision in the coming days. "This has always been a dream of mine," Ellis said. "This is the best move for me to put my name in the draft." Ellis becomes the fourth high school player to officially declare for the draft, joining Oklahoma State signee Gerald Green (Gulf Shores Academy in Houston, Texas), unsigned Andray Blatche of South Kent Prep School (Conn.) and Memphis signee Shawne Williams (Laurinburg Prep, N.J.). Green is probably the highest-rated of the bunch but has said he would keep his options open and not sign with an agent. There could be more forthcoming as Washington signee Martell Webster (Seattle Prep School), Georgia signee Louis Williams (South Gwinnett High in Snellville, Ga.), unsigned Brandon Rush (Mount Zion Academy in Durham, N.C.), Kansas signee Julian Wright (Homewood-Flossmoor High in Ill.) and Alabama signee Richard Hendrix (Athens High in Ala.) all have decisions to make. Eight high school seniors went in the first round in the 2004 NBA draft. </div> Source
Shape!! I just saw this on ESPN.com and went to post the article, but you beat me to it shape!! Anyway, I think this is a good move for him because I think his stock will never be higher than it is now because I think he is very overrated.,

He's played average in both the McDonald's game and the Nike Hoops Summit game. He was originally a first round lock, now he's slipping fast into the second round. He should have went to college for at least a year and prove he can actually play PG.

Man, originally I was against the age limit, letting kids who were barely ready go out early and work on their game, but after seeing all these guys go, and probably get disappointed in the draft, there needs to be some kind of changes somewhere in the system. As JWohl noted, they probably are all worried that they'd get exposed, because the lottery system values potential so much more than actual production. Needing to work on a few things is one thing, but making the jump from SG to PG is something that needs a lot of coaching and can often fail.
The reason this kid is overrated is because highschool kids in general today are over hyped. He is a 6-2 shooting guard and yes, averages 42ppg, however the talk is so wild now about these kids, they over think and over evaluate their own real skills. My senior year in HS was the same year the crappiest HS class declared. '98. Yes we did have Al Harrington and an eventual All Star in Rashard Lewis, but we had the first real "what are they thinking" in Korleone Young and Taj "Red" McDavid. (bet you all have no clue who he is...lol) My sr year I was in a dominant Perochial program, Notre Dame Academy, and I averaged 33 11 9. I had boxes and boxes of letters from D1 schools, and today, that gives a kid not just a glimmer, but proof to himself he is the next KObe/Tmac. Then, I was extatic to just get anything from anybody, cuz my comp was non existant. Now a kid gets his jolly's smokin a bunch of trailer kids from the swamps of a D12 school in the Glades and he thinks he's ready to lock down AI and dunk on Shaq. THIS HAS TO STOP. There are exceptions, but the agents and the "friendly whispers" are destroying, not the leauge, but these kids lives and futures.
I agree, the league needs to do something about the agents. I was watching the way super agent Drew Rosenhaus was acting during the NFL Draft with Shaun Cody. He was calling teams and making up stories that other people are trying to trade up to draft Cody. Then he would tell Cody, ok your not going to drop past the next 5 picks, guess what he dropped right into the 2nd round. It was sickening watching the way these agents do business. And Rosenhaus is actually supposed to be one of the classier agents. I think they need to get rid of the guaranteed contracts for starters. This way players have to perform or else see you later. Then the NBA has to get started on building a minor league system. Monta Ellis hasn't signed with an agent yet, if he doesn't get a commitment from a team to pick him in round 1, he probably goes to college.
Drew Rosenhaus is a first rate as*h*le. He's more detrimental to his players than he helps them. Sure, he'll get em a huge contract, but he screws up everything esle. He makes em hold out, he's a weasel with stuff like shape just described. People like him should be barred from participation in any facet of sports.
Monta Ellis' stock has lowered a lot all because of his poor play in the McDonalds All-American game. I think he's very overrated, but a team will take a chance on him and draft him in the late first round because of his potential.

Take it from me, first hand, besides growing up my whole life with family members who are former pro athletes, family in the front office of one of the most prestigeous teams in all of sports and going through "the proccess" myself, you hate an agent if you have to bargain with them, you love them if they're bargaining for you. David Falk, the man they coined the term "super agent" for, is a damn genious, I've met him, talked with him and he is amazing. he made Michael Jordan the first sponsored icon. He made endorsments what they are today. But if I ever had to do business with the man, I'd probably go after his wife and kids! But in the end, to this day, "certain" agents, and I wont name names, (you never know who's watching) are absolutly destroying the way sports work as we know it.
He shouldn't go theres only one high schooler ready to go pro and thats Gerald Green who was by far the best player at the mcdonalds game. He's a star in the making. Ellis' stock may have a chance at rising but very little in my mind. He is to overhyped. As for Rosenhaus he makes his players big which is what he is supposed to do.

But I feel he's doing the right thing by going and playing at least a year of college so that he'll be a higher draft pick in the 2006 draft and so he'll learn a few things from Coach K. Green has already been compared to Tracy McGrady. He's has supreme athleticism and a quick release on his shot exactly like T-mac.
