I think the Lakers would benefit from a Dirk and Harris offer, I just don't think the Mavs would do it.

    Wow, loyalty [IMG].

I don't see why the Mavs would even want Kobe at this point. Dirk is the better player (by that I mean he had a better year). Besides, there are too many up and coming guards on their team already (Howard, Daniels) and veteran guards (Terry and Finley). Those guys are already getting the job done at bargain prices.

As for the Lakers POV, Dirk is one of the few elite players whose name doesn't really sell imo. People will pay to see the Mavs team, but it's not like Dirk = sales.

Trading for Kobe would solve the upcoming problem with Finley (he's aging), but if Dirk is gone then it really serves no purpose.

Dirk had a better year then kobe? Where was i when this supposedly happend. Oh you must mean cause Kobe missed 14 games, or the fact that his bench is better then the laker starters?

    cause i dont see it.

I never even mentioned benches, or the fact that the Mavs are more the same team than the Lakers for that matter. I didn't get into reasons.

Reasons aside, Dirk had a better year.

Dirk did have a better year than Kobe.

Dirk averaged 26 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1.25 steals, 1.5 blocks, less than 2.5 turnovers, while shooting .400 from the arc, .460 from the field and 87% playing less minutes and taking less shots than Kobe.

Kobe had another good season with 27.5/6/6/1.3/1. But he also turned the ball over 4 times per game, while shooting 43% from the field.

Id say those are good numbers, but not better. As good as? yea, but the edge goes to him being in the playoffs which is why i said "Bench etc" because anyone could easily use that as an excuse.

Dirk also should have a higher FG% cause he's 7ft and though he has a great outside game, he doesnt shoot as often on the perimiter as Kobe. Which also explains the Rebounds, and as for the turnovers.... Dirk is a PF/C/SF, KB8 is the SG/PG/SF and the main ball handler.

Anyways, i would agree Dirk had a more solid year.

I'm not sure how you can compare Kobe's and Dirk's season. We can look at stats, but the numbers don't always tell the entire story. Their teams are in a completely different situation, plus their roles and the position they play are night and day. Both had great seasons and both were All Stars, let's leave it at that.

Back to the topic. There is no chance the Lakers trade Kobe for Dirk and Harris. The Mavs have tried several seasons and spent a lot of money trying to build around Dirk as the franchise player. It has not resulted in a Championship, let alone a trip to the NBA Finals. Of course Kobe made the Championship with Shaq, and players like Shaq do not come around often, but it's been shown Kobe can be a centerpiece of getting a team to a Championship and winning it, Dirk has not, so there is no chance this deal happens.

I have much respect for dirk, MUCH..and id really dig a Kobe/Dirk combo...but im a KB8 Fan 4 life. Anyways, Buss isnt sure about re-hiring pjax if for nothing more then saving face. He would be admitting that phil was right for LA all along and worth every penny (which IMP he is, track record and gold in weight speaks for itself reguardless).

So therefore, im led to beleive that anything short of Kevin Garnett or Shaquille Oneal *enter sarcastic laugh here* for Kobe would be the death certificate for the LA franchise EASILY. Therefore, KB8 with the no trade clause is LA Property for the next 6yrs..
