<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Suns assistant Marc Iavaroni's basketball travels have been a series of fortunate events.

Now, the possibility exists that another team will fill its coaching vacancy with him.

It would be quite an accomplishment for a man whose NBA playing career almost did not materialize.
Iavaroni is the only Suns coach or player to win an NBA title.

After seven NBA seasons, Iavaroni went to play another season in Italy but a knee injury ended his career. However, he made an important bond with one teammate - Mike D'Antoni.

Iavaroni was working for Pete Newell's Big Man Camp in 1997 but was ready to leave basketball to work for Virginia's student foundation. At that point, Memphis coach Mike Fratello gave him his first NBA assistant job. Fratello, then Cleveland's coach, wanted an assistant to develop centers Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Vitaly Potapenko.

Iavaroni has been on NBA benches ever since, including a three-season stint under Pat Riley in Miami that preceded his arrival in Phoenix. Iavaroni said he learned that "teaching is an art" from Fratello.

Wow, I would be sad if he left our team. He is a important coach to have.
