Well, now that we have Baron and our cap space is blown, I would say yeah, I'd trade Murphy for K-Mart. But before the season, when we had an outside chance to get him or trade for him? No, I would have prefered to overpay Murphy like we did than overpay K-Mart. K-Mart has some moves, but without a good point guard, we would not be able to take advantage of his skills and even get him the ball down low where he wants it. He's got a good defensive presence, but it's not like the shotblocking, help-defense presence we need - it's more of a one-on-one presence. For half the price, I was fine with Murphy, despite all of his shortcomings.

As for the other max players - I don't think Gasol is worth the max, but I think AK definitely is worth the max. If it weren't for the injuries, and if he played the entire season, extending his numbers would have made him a contender for MVP.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Warriorfansnc93:</div><div class="quote_post">Ok, but that is kind of a mute point because who would have played in their place? Murphy for Kmart is a wash IMO, Speedy would have started and Pietrus would have gotten more minutes due to Dunleavy spotting at PG, Foyle is a given. We needed to sign somebody to play center with us not choosing to keep Damp. We would have only had Cliffy because at the time DD was not here yet.

I agree that he is not producing max number but then again either is AK47 or Gasol.</div>
Well just for the sake of argument, I would prefer more defense than what we're getting from Murphy.

    I agree on Murph/Kmart.

As for Gasol, yeah, he doesn't play enough D to be a max type player. He's a nice offensive player, though.

I wouldn't take on Gasol's contract, even if Murphy was traded for him. Gasol is not that good...

I disagree, I would take Gasol over Murphy even with the contracts involved. Not like Memphis would trade him after essentially making him their franchise player. He's big, versatile, fast, a good shotblocker. The one weakness is his lack of strength but for the four years that he's been here, he's been one of the top ten power forwards in the league. I'd take him over K-Mart, for example.

Here's another list since I'm into ranking these things:
    1. Duncan
    2. Garnett
    3. Nowitzki
    4. O'Neal
    5. Stoudamire
    6. Brand
    7. Gasol
    8. Martin
    9. Wallace
    10. Bosh
    11. Jamison
    12. Boozer
    13. Walker
    14. Webber
    15. Abdur-Rahim
    16. Odom
    17. Murphy
    18. Randolph
    19. Gooden
    20. Brown
    21. Ku. Thomas
    22. Marshall
    23. Haslem
    24. Ke. Thomas
    25. Smith

Are you serious? Gasol is a pretty good offensive player. Not many players his size can move the way he does, play one-on-one either facing up or in the post. Plus he can score with either hand and block shots. He is Memphis' scoring leader shooting over 51% a game.

I'm puzzled as to why you think "he is not that good" without giving some sort of references, observations or examples. Otherwise, the statement seems rather baseless and confusing.

Gasol is better at both ends of the floor than Murphy (though his D still isn't good). I would do that trade in a second.

Is anyone watching Kmart? Tell me he is not a low post player. Sure he only has 7pts 3 rebs but he had foul trouble in the first half and only played 14 mins. He is starting to get into a flow. He gets the ball in the low post faces up and either pops the 4fter or he takes it to the rack like he has on his last 2 FGs against Duncan. Denver went on a 8-0 run and Kenyon scored 5 of those 8pts...

I think i speak for everyone on the GSW board when i say we would all like him on our team (and any team would like him) but look at how we ended up anyway.

    AK47>Gasol>Kmart

Murph posts same scoring and has better rebounding numbers than Kmart, what's there to argue about? He's cheaper, he can stretch opponent's D with inside and outside game, better FT shooter, can stroke the 3, not to mention Murph is not a soft player, what else do you want?

I think Martin would be dope playing with Davis. A Martin/Richardson/Pietrus/Davis line up could probally run any team off the court. It'd be a pretty solid defensive line-up too. But I agree with openglfx, Id take Ak47 or Gasol over Martin aswell. I think Gasol and AK are more worth their contracts.
