Maybe Nene isn't getting consistent playing time [IMG]

Also, was this pre-injury or post-injury you saw him play?

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting UltimateWarrior:</div><div class="quote_post">You care to expand on that? I havn't seen him play probally as much as you since you live out there but I heard he's got good potential so Im curious why you say he's so bad.</div>

    1. He cant even start over Marcus Camby
    2. How many years will it take before he reaches his "potential"
    3. 66% FT shooter. I watched him miss every single FT against the Warriors in Denver on Apr 11th. Well, almost all of them.
    4. 9pts/5rb/<1blk per game in 23+mpg. I mean he is basically another Adonal Foyle
    5. He has basically produced the same stats all of his career +/- 10pts/ 6rebs

Care to expand on why we should pick him up?

He gets over 20mpg. If Biedrens got that he would have averaged better number than Nene did starting all 77 games a few years ago where is also average .5 blocks per game. I dont know about him being injured. I figure if someone is playing they are not too injured. If you use an injury as an excuse, maybe you should not be playing.

Im just throwing out ideas. Fact is we need to beef up our frontline and we obviously aren't going to get Garnett in return. Plus playing with a PG like Davis would probally elevate his game..look what it did to Foyle.

Nene came in as a project, and while he's learned a bit, he's still questionable. For an athletic big man with a huge wingspan (7'4"+), Nene has the worst shotblocking skills that I've seen. He's the perfect example of a guy who's got all the physical tools and lacking all of the mental ones, because he's never really learned them until he came to the U.S. Granted, he has improved on some of his fundamentals, but like Olowakandi, it's not where you'd like them to be. So he's not boxing out as well as he could, not taking charges as well, not positioning well for rebounds as well as he could, not having good footwork in the post. I'm not saying Nene is a bust, though. The guy is 22 years old, the age of a college senior, unlike Foyle, who's probably only a 9-5 guy at his prime. I think those numbers are great for his age. If he keeps trying hard and avoids injury, I bet he can be a consistent 15-8 guy in one or two years.

One thing we can agree on is that the team as it stands might make the playoffs next year, but looking at what happen to New Jersey and Memphis the Warriors might go 0-4 in the playoffs. If there is a trade that makes sense then do it, but don't trade just for the sake of it. We are set at PG, SG and PF but if there is a player at 9th that happens to be one of the positions we already have and is the best player available, I say we take him and worry minutes later.

Yeah, I agree. This current team may make PO. But, PO is completely different business, where things are much more physical than regular season. And, I don't think our 3 and 4 can stand those physical abuse, since they are neither fast nor strong. You can say 'let's make PO first then worry about it', but before the roster becomes set in stone and only way to fix the problem is a complete rebuilding, I would like to Mullin to prepare for future PO as well, because at this point, we can still make some adjustment...

There's definitely a dichotomy between regular season and post season. Memphis was able to get the 8th seed, but their defense nor their talent was substantial enough to keep from getting swept by the Suns. Then there's also the Nets, they had V.C., Jkidd, and less than 100% Richardson Jefferson, and some soft D inside. Once the winning happens, so do the expectations and I expect for us to nail out any weaknesses we have before they become a problem long term, like Kwan stated.

I think we're a team comparable to the Sonics/Suns, but I'd rather be the team that can play with defense and cause the other team's emotional patience/confidence in scoring to drop.

Yeah, the Sonics proved that defense really helps in the playoffs. While Sacramento has been shooting themselves in the foot, the Sonics have also been playing very physical ball on the interior with their 4-man rotation at the big spots: Jerome James, Reggie Evans, Danny Fortson, and Nick Collison. We, on the other hand, only really have 3 bigs right now: Foyle, Murphy, and Biedrins. It's safer to get another guy as Biedrins gets into foul trouble and Foyle can get overmatched, and Murphy is really only an offensive threat. There aren't many rookies that will have an instant impact this season, so we'll likely be better off looking for a veteran.

I would have liked the young Antonio Davis, especially since he's from Oakland and does the inside/outside thing plus the rebounding/defense. His game is obviously receding. Who is a good veteran FA power forward or guy who is built for battle in the paint that won't break down or won't suffer any huge dropoffs in performance? I'm sure we can trade for one, but it has to be something that can expire by the time Zarko or Pietrus is up for free agency. Otherwise, I don't think it's worth it. We're better off finding a Ben Wallace-like clone straight out of college or from overseas.

It's also funny that Jerome James is having some nice playoffs games and he happens to be up for FA this season. Fortson and him were such headcases so the Sonics had to win a lot just so there's some harmony in the locker-room. They did well, but I think they don't have what it takes when those shots aren't falling as they are.

There's a serious lack of NBA enforcers and big men as vocal leaders. After Davis and Oakley, there haven't been many guys in the paint with the muscle to back it up. Quite frankly, I can't think of any veterans that really are good enough to bring over.

Kelvin Cato is a solid banger, but he's paid quite a lot (around 8 million). P.J. Brown is the same, pretty much. Again, ditto for Jeff Foster. Derek Coleman is still out there, but that's a major risk. Jerome Williams is always a banger, and the Knicks have way too many forwards. NBA power forwards have changed a lot over the past years, it seems.

Watching the Suns,it dawned on me that they are really playing a small lineup, and doing fine. Marion,at 6-6 is a dynamite rebounder and Amare explodes.
I am pretty sure now Pietrus will be the starting SF early,if not the start of the season. Like Marion,Pietrus is strong for his size, long arms,a leaper and quick. Any front court draft additions should be solid on D,real good on the boards-which I remain unconvinced any of the Euro prospects are ready to give.
I am pretty sure Denver extended White, and not Shika. If Cheaney and Shika leave, thats 2 slots for our rookies and we can do better. In his time here Shika was probably paid $200,000 for every basket he made. He had 3 years and never did much.
Unless there is a Warrior opt-out,which I don't know about,we can't let White walk. We can swap him. We won't get a lot. Perhaps he will be a guy who looks around and decides to change his game, some do,some never get it.

That's some bold statements, REREM [IMG]

Pietrus, I don't think can play power forward like Marion is doing for the Suns. Marion is obviously a lot stronger, a bit longer, but both him and Piet are pretty long and athletic and can rebound. If we're talking this lineup maybe we can get something going like a cross between the Sonics, Suns, and a team that inverts their offense and has the guards play inside. Kind of like what they already do now.

    pg: Baron Davis
    sg: Mickael Pietrus
    sf: Jason Richardson
    pf: Dunleavy
    c: Troy Murphy (weighing down)

Only reason I put Jrich at small forward is because he plays more like a small forward than he does a traditional two guard.

Right, with Pietrus and J Rich both on the floor they are "wing" men, both VERY quick, high leapers, able to get hot from the arc. How many teams have 3 guys quick enough to guard Baron,Air France, and J Rich? Pietrus/J Rich may not shut down a 6-9 sf-but that guy may have the worst of it by being a step late every time. The Suns figure Amare and Marion will outquick most matchups, yet Amare and Marion will out-Board many bigger guys too. Don't forget,Dunleavy,Zarko will also play a lot. Monty was working matchups a lot in the late season. Who we draft will also factor in. We all saw games where Pietrus or Zarko scores 25. Monty seems to have found that up tempo and using the depth are key tactics.
