<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Ben Wallace of the Detroit Pistons has won the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award, a source within the league said Monday morning.

The Pistons scheduled an afternoon news conference, and the source, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, said Wallace would be presented with the award at that time.

Wallace also won it in 2002 and 2003.

During the regular season, he ranked fifth with 2.38 blocks per game, second with 12.2 rebounds a game and 23rd with 1.43 steals a game. The 6-foot-9, 240-pound center ranks second in the playoffs with three blocks a game. </div>

Kind of surprising given so much media buzz around Bowen.

Well-deserved though. I'm glad he got it. Not many people have his versatility on defense, both on-ball and help. He probably should have gotten it last year too..

I'm a little surprised Ben won the award, mainly due to the fact I thought Bowen had done enough to win It. With that said no one in the NBA has a bigger effect on the defensive end than big Ben. He certainly is deserving. He goes alot further than just stats.

Well deserved by Big Ben, he should've won it last year as well IMO. Ben Wallaces defense effects a whole team but Artest or Bowen's only works for a wing. Ben is truly a great NBA player.

I have to admit too that it was a bit of a suprise to me. All this about a big tossup and high canidates such as Camby, Marion, and Bowen. Wallace is a very nice weapon for Detroit and its obvious he`s one of big reasons the Pistons are so successful. Congrats to Ben and imo he`ll go down as one of the best defensive players ever in the game.

Congrats to big Ben! Any team would love to have that guy roaming the frontcourt for them.

    Yeah Ben Yeah!

I'm glad he won. I did not expect it but it was still well deserved. Should have been four in a row. Congrads to Big Ben!
